As I write this, I'm sitting here watching Craig Ferguson on my TV. He does "The Late Late Show" on CBS. I'm sure he works goofy faces and sound effects into all of his daily conversations, and that must be the "real" Craig Ferguson. (He just made a bunch of goofy faces set to sound effects and the audience roared.)
Why would CBS put a talent on the air that isn't completely real? Didn't anyone ever tell him that's not how it's done?
Radio is theater of the mind. Talent is whoever the audience thinks they are. If they're really good talent, they're whoever the talent wants the audience to think they are.
Anyway... We all get graded on our performance in this business, and I understand young Tino has been getting good grades. That's all that really matters.
Not only can you NOT compare tv to radio. But reguardless it be TV or radio you cannot compare market #1 to any medium market and expect things to be similar. I am not calling you out but come on. You claim you are in a top 10 market and you say vomiting on the mic and not being real is acceptable??? What kind of show would Funkmaster Flex, Fatman Scoop, DJ Clue, Angie Martinez, or ANY New York jock sound vomiting everytime they cracked the mic? Not very good. Things such as bits, rumors, or whatever are already fake enough, I think the jock being real is essential. I admit, I wish I was in Tinos shoes bout now. He has his youth, a good market size on his resume, and nothing but room to grow in his future. But I will tell you this, fast forward 10 years and if Tino is still on the mic at age 29 vomiting.... he will most likely be in some 200 plus market. Because he will not advance into major markets using that voice. I hope the kid gets it together, I really do. But to say that it is okay to be fake and use a fake radio voice is not only comical, but appalling.
Thanks fo rthe praise Diamonddizzle.... never expected to get respect on this board.
