insidethenumbers said:Once again, everybody on this board is way too focused on ratings. KHOT does not care how it ranks against English speaking stations.
KHOT only competes against itself and other traditional forms of media competing for the Hispanic audience.
In fact, many English stations do not place a high importance on ratings since they are still arbitrary.
Ratings are for gawkers like us who want something to gossip about.
Bottom line is always revenue and the top rated stations do not always represent the top stations in revenue.
The lighter rock and oldies stations are performing well across the nation due to “arena” type listening where more conservative formats are played in offices settings, malls, stores, etc. and therefore picked up by the PPM radar methodology. However, this does not represent an active audience that will engage with the station or support it’s advertisers.
The big winner in this book is KZON who is benefiting from PPM but still has an unwanted audience for advertisers.

i.e., just shut up and play the songs--on classic hits radio?
I don't mind the jocks inserting their personalities and/or relevant talk or items of common audience interest. I think that sort of thing is what endears us to on-air staff. Items like the history of a played group/member or upcoming concerts or personal items of interest (one good example was the story of Monkee Davey Jones befriending a little girl in north Phoenix some years ago and the relationship they continue to share).
What I don't like is lame commentary/jokes/nonsense/Brittany updates which is why I don't bother with most AMD shows.
If a detached voice is just going to give time/temp and queue commercials there is no personality. I might better be listening to my mp3 player.

For the past twenty years or so, with a very few local exceptions, DJ talk has been pretty obnoxious.Since the blessed advent of mp3 players, a personality has to be pretty special before I'll tune in. The music is the thing. If you want Davy Jones stories, you can check in at his Facebook or website.

KMVA, KKFR, KLNZ, KVVA/DVA all did well enough in the June book to make the top 10 P18-34. I assume that's a little closer to thier target. KMVA is actually tied for 4th with KZZP W18-34.justthenumbers said:Dr. Akbar said:Nurse Jeff and I are still scratchin our fezes over the performance of Movin' 97....6+ and in demos that mean $$. Movin' seems to have a pretty good signal around the Valley on car radios. Perhaps a lot (the majority?) of listening to Movin' occurs in cars, and with people constantly changing stations, maybe this wasn't being accounted for by diary keepers as well as it is by the PPM? This could be especially true with Movin', since they share so many titles with numerous other stations in town - the average diary keeper may have been giving those other stations credit. The PPM makes sure that doesn't happen (or so I would imagine?)
Correct. P25-54 for the June book:DavidEduardo said:Curi said:Persons 25-54 for APR MAY JUN
1 KMXP
2 KPKX
3 KUPD
4 KOOL
T5 KTAR FM
T5 KZZP
7 KESZ
8 KSLX
9 KMLE
10 KFYI
That's a three book average, right?
It does not appear KFYI has opted to compined KNIX's HD2 into a single line, at any rate no HD2 listening was reported. Only 2 discreet weeks in the quarter show stream listening. 1 to KMVA and 1 to KPKX.DavidEduardo said:Curi said:They are encoded separately, as are their respective streams.
If an HD2 channel is a 100% simulcast, the station can elect single line reporting or separate reporting. Similarly, if a web stream was 100% simulcast, they could be combined by choice.

Re the (13) 28-day cycles, does this mean there will no longer be a
two-week ratings blackout during the Chirstmas/New Year's period?

I hear you can pick up a '65 Bonneville (the car, not an aircheck of
Herb Jepko on KSL) real cheap at Mecham Pontiac. ;D
A Phoenix PPM has already recorded KIIS FM. The meter doesn't care where you do your listeneing.Dr. Akbar said:oldiesfan6479 said:Doc--

Yes indeedy....that '65 Bonnie was from the era when everyone knew what a wide track Pontiac looked like and could do! No watered down Chevbuickmobile like we've seen for the past 20 years. 4566 W Glendale Av...sacred ground for the Middle Eastern Men of the Media 'cause Ev & Willard sold quality AMC vehicles there as well!
Back to topic: betcha we'll see a KSL credit in one of the PPM ratings this fall when that Ancient Modulation skywave kicks in big time.
