PPM--But No KHOT?

DavidEduardo said:
Nope, in PPM there is no break, ever. 12 4-week period.

I somehow posted before finishing... 12 four week periods named for the months they sort of parallel, and a 4 week Holiday period from mid December into early January. 13 in total, non-stop.

So when do jocks take vacation now?

Guess they don't. They may come back to find they've been replaced
by Tom Kent, Ryan Watercress or some generic voicetracker.

Didn't there also used to be a two-week ratings blackout in early July--
between the spring and summer book periods?

Speaking of TK, the Nurse and I listened to the first couple of hours of his Saturday night show on KOOL-FM (Coo FM as the late BJ Hunter would say). Any resemblence to what KOOL does during the day was purely coincidental. Kinda funny to hear "Backstabbers" by the OJays played twice within a half hour! ...what they do!

Univsion chose not to encode. MediaWeek had an article on it in June and it was made official in July. The only market that Unvision is encoding currently is Houston. One has to wonder what the significance of Nielsen pushing ahead with strengthing their radio presence will play in the future.

Not true. Univision encodes in several PPM markets including the top 3.

Nielsen will have no impact major market measuring anytime in the near future.

Encoding is being done in NY, LA, SF, SJ, CHI, Hou and DFX.

Then why is there talk of a metered test as soon as Q4 in a major market, using BDS technology for fingerprinting and storing detection data?

(Nielsen owns BDS)

Whether or not "talk of a metered test" would come to fruition or not, it will be a long long road between that "talk" and agency/broadcast acceptance as currency in major markets. And that's assuming Arbitron makes no adjustment to protect its market share. I stand by my "anytime in the near future" statement.

Nielsen already has acceptance at every agency, and the "call for porposals" by Clear, and the changes in smaller markets indicate a deep dissatisfaction with Arbitron. When a top 30 market morning show is around a 9 to an 11 for months, and then gets less than a point in another month just shows how much there is to fix with the diary samples. And the PPM is onlly accredited in two markets...sign of a huge problem there.

Agencies would love to buy with a cross platform metric, and be able to see synergies, combined reach and frequency, etc.
