New Orleans Predictions for 103.7 NoLa and 104.1 BR

And they still broadcasting in New Orleans which I am surprised has been going on for so long, considering COL changed many moons ago and barely a 40 dbu signal in Gonzales if that.
Plan was to have cake and eat it too when they had the 2000 foot stick as the plan was to move COL from Houma to BR, back fill into NOLA, and still build out 103.7 .
104.1 is still too close spaced being in Chalmette to 104.5, hince the move to Baton Rouge instead of rebuilding Vacherie or building something closer as there are no big sticks in River/Bayou Region that don't already have at least a radio station tv station, government owned or too much a headache to get on due to loading.
104.1 is rumored to be jbo FM. I still think jbo will stay on AM , and probably do a WWL style playback. Where you can break coverage for different things, but still have a full power am/fm.

A translator is tied to a am station for only first 5 years. They will probably feed it with WFMF HD2 (Which has been JBO FM as well as 98.7 and beleive 5 years is up). And could be moved to anything, but agree on either throwbacks or a Alt station which I heart does in many cities. As I'm guessing this may be why 98.1 started going heritage and started playing new rock for. Since 92.3 is a rimshot in BR, and fear of I heart stealing listeners with a new Alt station.

We’re past 5 years now so they should be able to use WFMF HD. They could either add an HD3 or, if 104.1 is WJBO, have that be HD.

I don't think anyone in Baton Rouge radio is "scared" of a new alt station. It isn't exactly a format that's top of the heap, much as I enjoy it personally. The X had its moments and even then, wasn't enough of a success to stay on one of the 104 frequencies. All respect to Dan Day, but...

The WJBO translator was granted in the 2018 filing window. Those translators were permanently linked to their AM parent. There's no four or five year loophole for them.
If this is the case then 104.1 will be getting the new format. I think the new format would definitely be something urban. Most likely Urban AC to take on 106.5 or Hip Hop to take on 94.1. Or they might do Throwbacks, R&B Oldies, or even Gospel to take on 1460/95.7. An alt rock station might be possible but something Urban is where the money is at. It might not beat 106.5/94.1 but it will definitely pull them down from the top 2. Yall are probably tired of me yapping about urban stuff but this is just predictions.

Please remind me then, how to tell the ones permanently tied, and the ones who were only a 5 year window? As have been seeing a few around the nation flip off the am transmitter, or sell the AM er and flip it to being fed by a HD station? And I don't think I heart owns any other AMs anymore in BR, but I've seen where owners flip the translator simulcast stations around (like WFNO in New Orleans)

Genuinely curious sir

225 tells me you probably understand the market.
But I could see gospel if they can sell it like they do more in other like Southern cities in Alabama and Georgia. But we would have to see if 1460 has enough listeners to share.
Nola has two urban ACs and they both do good in market. Hip-hop stations I normally only see 1 per.. my guess is harder to kill the king as most hip hop stations are decades format winners.
Would say a Rhythemic 40, but that would kill WFMF.
Old school is not done in market, would be closer to Typical listener neighborhoods and would be a more likely bet, to take people off 106.5 feeling left out listening to newer songs.(People tend to shun newer music as they grow older).

I could see a Alt station in BR, but not on 104.1, this would be one of the translator stations like 97.7 more than full power station imo. As they would VT the whole thing, barely any investment and aim it at LSU kids

Classic country as a flanker for WYNK, as a long shot as I'm guessing older listeners (and actually more younger people who cant stand the "hick-hop" starting to get turned off on pop country). WYNK is one of their darlings, I'm actually surprised it's still bringing in numbers over 100.7 as WTGE tend to play off the more traditional, local, and classic sounds. However I'm not completely in market to really gauge it and to do it right, would need feedback imo. As usually 70s-2k has been a winner.

Outside horse of a adult hits or a classic hits style, but that may kill some of the listenership from RVE.. as I hear the 97.7 translator, but not sure how many listen to the older classic hits as I do see it hit .1 and .2 on arbitron, but 103.3 does way better numbers. Kind of a BR "spot"?

Sorry I like speculating, thinking how it would do and seeing what others think, as I've learned way more that way sometimes.

I was trying to figure out WDGL adding new music only after 10 years almost saying they would.
I threw it out as speculation that adding more newer rock would make it harder for a translator alt Rocker aimed at kids.
Their story on DGL officially was the classic rock they were adding was sounding like new rock, just broaden the playlist and get listeners like me who like the rock variety. (Better than the other classic Rocker I can hear still stuck pre Katrina).

My guess is some sort of Hot AC that threads the needle between B97 and Magic. Something that skews female and targeted to the 40 something crowd. It would help to pull down both B97 and Magic in the ratings and possibly elevate other iheart stations while pulling decent ratings itself. Can someone bring back the Diva format that was on 92.3 pre-K? I think it could do better given today's demographics of terrestrial radio.

The New Orleans radio market is a tough place because of the long entrenched formats on heritage stations.

WWL owns sports, 99.5 has talk covered, iHeart already owns urban, and Cumulus is arguably struggling with their stations because there's no glaring format hole for them to plug. The only other thing I can think of is Classic Country but I don't know how big of a demo New Orleans has for the format because I can't recall any classic country station with even a partial city grade signal covering New Orleans in my lifetime aside from the short (and unsuccessful) stint of Nash Icon on 106.1, but is somewhat signal challenged itself.

I figured they would have done the adult hits still as they were putting decent numbers. Pretty much urban is wrapped up (4 stations/translators), unless KLRZ lost ESPN, I won't say sports, as we have 3 with 100.3, 3 urban, Not enough demo I think for classic country (plus Jefferson parish has a fairly good rimshot on 94.9)
Spanish could come to take on Crocodile (97.5/105.7 /Telemundo 42) that basically has it locked up outside of 97.9 (which I've heard aims more to the Central American immigrants?).

I could see the Hot AC , which would put a dent hard in Entercom. They had the rock format on 96.3 which they canned for the more successful throwback 96.3 .
Gospel is covered and didn't do too well (need more African American protestants IMO for it to be successful than NOLA has (as remember some are catholic here in 504)
Rock I don't think unless they want to move Walton and Johnson to another classic Rocker off of wrno. (Even though it's on news stations in Houston, BR, and NOLA).

So me, spanish, hot ac, adult hits, or a classic hits format.

Dark horse is LMA to Streetz guy for $10k/month

Hot AC like “Mix” in Dallas
Classic Hits is becoming more Adult Hits these days when I compare the two on iHeart, just my difference
Now Spanish? Like a CHR Spanish would be interesting...

I am thinking they want to keep Christmas Music on for the holidays to keep Magic on its toes ;)

Maybe the old Mix 104.1 format, but on 103.7?? Mix was a very eclectic station for its time. Fast forward a decade or so, Voodoo 104 comes along, playing some more modern hits with throwbacks from the “Mix” days, and hinting at “this new format will remind you of an old friend.” Me personally, I say bring back Mix or Voodoo
