Programmers say Dixie Chicks still not welcome on their airwaves

I agree, they may have an opinion and a political belief but, they were the ones who couldn't separate music from politics. They were the ones who made the statement a part of their show in another country.

True. The Dixie Chicks put that political ball into play, not some nosey fan scrutinizing their political orientation. It was Natalie who shot herself in the foot. To this day, the entire act is still limping.

I try not to let my politcal views cloud the facts, the Dixie Chicks are the biggest selling female band of the soundscan era, toured with the Eagles in 2011. When the backwood mentality blackballed them, they defiantly recorded "Not ready to make Nice" and continued to sell plenty of CD's ,thank you...it's hard to break sales records on a bad foot.

again political views cloud the facts, 2006 a year after the furor, they had the 9th biggest selling LP in the USA, and in 2007 won five of five grammies(Ouch, I should limp so bad) including song and record of the year.....you can't believe everything you hear at Toby keith concerts waiting in the beer line. "Pissed everyone off"...South East of the Mississippi doesn't constitute everyone.

You're assuming I'm a conservative. You're wrong.

The furor happened in 2003, not 2005.

The album that was released in 2006 was "Taking the Long Way. To date, it has sold 2 million copies, according to the RIAA.

The album previous to the furor, 2002's "Home" sold 6 million copies. Their debut album, when they made nice with everyone, sold 12 million copies.

You do the math.

As I said earlier in this thread, the turning point in their career wasn't Natalie's statement, but their lawsuit against Sony Music. After that, all of the people involved in their success, including their record producer, label president, and record promotion president, all got fired, and they were left without anyone who could help them. Other artists wouldn't help them. So when the furor happened, they were left without any label support. It was in that context that they recorded the next album with Rick Rubin. And yes it won a ton of Grammys after Rubin shamed the industry into voting for them. But all their sales success was done. And they haven't made an album since.
 
The Chicks haven't sold any CD's , because they haven't recorded any since 2006. So let's not say they were punished and run out of the business, they choose to take a break...all that aside, my original statement, was that they "were denied their freedom of speech and persecuted for it" plain and simple, and the country music Industry is a disgrace for it. If it was the fans that were responsible, they would have quit buying their cd's, and that was fine that was their choice, that is not denying the Chicks their rights, and sales dropped did drop, but they were not run out of the business, any artist today would be thrilled to sell 2million cd's. The Chicks didn't politicizie it , the industry did. The Chicks are political , so are you and I, I voice my right wing opinion all the time and no one comes after me, why were they singled out.....I'm outta here, i quit listening to CW a long time ago...I shoudn't even be reading this section..bye

But the one they recorded in 2006, the one you specified as the 9th selling CD of the year, sold substantially less than its predecessor.

No one denied them freedom of speech. They were allowed to commit professional suicide. They had to deal with the consequences. That is what freedom is all about.
 
The Chicks remind me of the kid that everyone went to school with, you know, the one who ditched his real friends to try to go hang out with the "cool" popular kids, only to get dissed by those popular kids, only to find out that his original friends (who were now former friends) would no longer have anything to do with him.

Kinda like Arlen Specter! ::)

So you resort to lame stereotypes when you run out of argument! ::) I'm not a big Toby Keith fan, but I'm guessing that NONE of them give a rat's ass about the Chicks.

True enough, they haven't recorded since 2006 (they broke up!), but the two sisters (without "Gnatalie") recorded as the Courtyard Hounds. How have they done on the charts? Guess their "fake friends" in Hollyweird ditched them after that grammy scam! Meanwhile, Gnatalie shaved her head, and looks like Sinead O'Connor now! The only "new" material that I've seen from the Chicks lately is one of those compilation CDs that record companies put out of groups when it is clear that their career is over.

Best proof that other formats have never really embraced them? AC radio only plays Fleetwood Mac's version of "Landslide" anymore.

That part, even I didn't know about. But I knew that the fix was in when The Tennessean's then-entertainment reporter predicted a sweep of grammies. Wonder if she was in on the fix?
 
I don't pay attention any awards shows anymore. The Hollywierd left has taken them over and anything or anyone that tweeks the nose of traditional America seem to automatically win the awards.

Let me begin this response by saying that you are not alone in feeling that way.

But, in this country we are dealing with a problem. (I guess every civilization in every time period in history goes through this opinion exchange.) I suspect that some of the people you look upon as "Hollywierd" have their own discussions as they travel, as they gather for festive gatherings of "artists" and in their conversation, they may say something like: "I used to spend more time mixing with the fans but they are all so "Bubba-wierd"... they are so "Gomer Pyle"... they are so "Joe the Plumber".

We have a system that requires that stars "put on a show" to earn their living. They 'assume the role of some character in a play' because it is their job to entertain the masses. But when they take off the make-up, when they put on their grungees, maybe even disguise themselves a little bit so they can have some privacy, what are they like when they go spend the afternoon fishing with a few friends, or play golf with some friends who may be able to help fund a charity they are promoting, or they take the afternoon to wander through Gatlinburg or Williamsburg or Conner Prairie Settlement.

I have sometimes concluded that some star-power person is probably so out of touch with real America they are useless. And then they show up on 60 minutes for an interview, or on Larry King, or Terri Gross and Fresh Air or in the studio with Bob Edwards. And when the interview is over my reaction may be: "Wow! There is actually a rational human being behind that pretty face!"

Some of them get to see more of America in a year than some of us see in a lifetime.

Who get's to decide what is "traditional America"? Hollywierd? Bubbawierd? Wall Street wierd? Pool Room wierd? Holy-Roller preacher wierd? Chamber of Commerce president wierd? Small-town police chief wierd?
