Q1160???? Who did this?

Puff the Dragon said:
The more I think about things, why didnt someone locally at 1160 tell Yinger that using a "Q" in the logo was not going to fly? Could these people really have been that ignorant about radio customs? Do you think they honestly thought "oh, we're licensed to Florence so it really doesnt matter?" By the way, with this talk format you can really hear the interference from another station coming in there more now than when it was playing oldies. Gee I better quit now because Puff is a nice dragon.
Is the station that's interfering with them WYLL AM 1160 in Chicago?

WYLL can be quite loud in the area. Up in the northern suburbs of Dayton in the winter, I often had interference from WYLL on 1160 all day.

Well Lets See WYLL is 50,000 Watts even though it is directional where i Live iN Central Indiana according to Radio Locator's Map im just at the Edge of the Fringe Day Signall of WYLL, While WQRT is 5000 during the Day Also Directional Also where i live in central Indiana gets to be the Edge of the Fringe Area of WQRT as well. i was listening in the car yesterday afternoon to see if they already dropped the Q1160 ID save the taped Weather forecast they already had by 4pm. but i was getting both WQRT on Top of a Strong WYLL

As of 8:08 this morning, the station is still listed as "Q1160-Real Talk" on their website. ::)
...and as of 5:10 PM they STILL had Q1160 listed as their name ABOVE a small printed "real talk" logo below on their website. Shouldn't they have gotten the Ceast and Desist by now? ;D

im sure they got the Cease and Desist by now since they are calling it Real Talk 1160 on the air. except for the one taped weather forecast i heard at 4pm on Monday afternoon. they probly totally forgot the q1160 logo on the website

OMG!

'ya gotta be kidding! Q-102's owners surely aren't happy campers about this one.

Don't we have enough talk in Cincy already? C'mon..this is a joke....this rates up there with Indiana stations re-using the WIFE,WFBM and WLHN callsigns at other locations continually in the 80s.

They must have got the letter because they have deleted all reference to "Q" on their website. By the way, check out the city skyline in the logo. Its not even Cincinnati! Amateurs truly must run this company and station. In fact, the other morning they ran 2 audio sources at the same time for about a half an hour and their other station, WCVX, is notorious for running long periods of dead air. JRY, which I'm guessing is John Yinger himself, needs to enroll in Broadcasting 101 apparently. How can you be this ignorant, John? And again why didnt your local guys wake up and clue you in before wasting money and time on the logo? Geez, Puff is done. I dont like being a nasty dragon but those clowns make it too easy. I could say plenty more about this but Puff is a nice dragon.

OK, friends. Now for some facts.
Pesky things, those facts.

Never was a C and D letter, probably would not have been one in a while. I should have stunted this until there was a letter as the P/R would have been great. I am not a jerk, though, and i do not believe in "trespassing" so to speak.
It would appear that when Bonne took the keys, the Service Mark/Trade Mark did not pass through to them. I am positive that the seller meant to do it but it fell through the cracks.
When the yogurt hit the fan, on this board, our top notch team of lawyers in DC did a check see. The rights stopped just before Bonneville.
Funny, huh? We may have done our friends in Salt Lake City a great service. I'll bet that passing the rights to the Q forward became job one.
I was never big on Q anyway and if i had known about the Q being so strong in the market, we would have not used it. Too much
Arbitron confusion. Real Talk rolls off the tongue better, IMO. Someone big in the talk industry talked me in to it. They profusely apologized about it, post facto.
BTW, the missing 30 minutes of a recent Reds game by The Big One just reminds us that "stuff happens". Our crew in Cincinnati are pretty dedicated and work hard. They have most of the bugs out. Heck, the wiring was such a mess that i was surprised that we got a signal to the transmitter. If you are industry guys, i would expect that you'd like to see another success in local radio as it will mean more jobs. We are going to be hiring, real soon.
Puff, feel free to share with us what you do and where you do it so we can spend some time picking your work product apart as well.
BTW, as you can see I don't hide behind any false and fancy Screen names. I don't have to. How 'bout a little reciprocity?

Read back through his posts, and I think it will become clear who he is, John. Read Officer Riley's and The One's while you're at it; same guy. Has no problem calling names (who's a "corpse" again?) and slinging mud from any of his handles, mostly just to be mean. You might think he has enough to worry about these days.

And, finally, i am happy to e mail or post the photo that was the basis of our skyline in the logo.
Just tell me where to send the attachment.
Now, let me say here, with all transparency, that i have always believed that the Alchemy guys have the best Oldies format i have ever heard.
I told someone at XM that they should be taking their cues from Rodger, jr.

I read these post all the time and must say I do agree with JRY that Roger jr. is just about the best oldies programmer and the new 1480( WDJO ? ) is the best progrmmed oldies radio station on the dial,(thanks for the streaming for night listening). I talked with one of the owners and they said it was the listeners response over the last three and half years that that kept them doing the format. Thank you Alchemy for keeping good 'oldies radio alive in Cincy, much appreciated, let the hits, Just keep on com'in.

JRY-- AGREE 100%---RJr is amazing--- any station that puts Glen Campbell, Round Robin, and Sonny Charles in a 3 song set deserves an emmy---Bravo!

next ARB---look for a DNS --

Ok, let's talk about that dedicated staff at WQRT Christian Broadcasting. The guy at the front desk comes in and out of diabetic shock and sleeps in his car on a daily basis for at least THREE hours a day. The programmer runs his paper route then naps in his office and his car at the station when he is around. The GM locks himself in his office with a feed bag and is not sure how much it will cost to run 1050 or 1160. The OLDIES guys paid the bills there and were carrying their sorry butts as well. It should be interesting JOHN to see what type of staff you hire, considering what you have. I think it would be great to work there because you can get away with anything. No, I'm not a true first hand observer, but do currently work at the broadcast plaza in another broadcasting medium and see a lot of things. GOOD LUCK!

Downbeat, That is just plain mean.

Hope you never get diabetes, like so many friends of mine (and my 9 month old granddaughter) have.

I'd rather have the blood sugar thing hit at a desk than while driving a car.

No, our friends at the other side of the building were not "carrying" anyone.

Hope to run into you during my next visit to the plaza.

Yes, John that is pretty mean. Thanks! I guess it's a good image to have a guy sleeping at your front desk if that's what you want. Now from what I understand the guys on the other side were paying you $25,000 per month on the lease plus the oldies staff and all the other expenses they maintained. You must have a great marketing trick up your sleeve to make that up with "real talk". Yes, maybe next time you slither into town I'll look you up at the old broadcast plaza.
