Radio 94-1 and WGRR Predictions

The Oy McVay line...I guess that is a reference to Mike McVay...is he consulting WGRR? If so, he is doing a good job.

For the record, the post was to say, looking forward, that WGRR and Radio 94-1 were going to do well. It was not meant as a place to lament the loss of the oldies incarnation of WGRR-which was long overdue for a change.

Right at the moment, the folks at Cumeless are smiling, and the sales rep at the Fox are dying.

"...Right at the moment, the folks at Cumeless are smiling, and the sales rep at the Fox are dying."

Just as predicted. But why would a radio pro like Keith Mitchell need any type of consultant? GRR isn't my cup of tea (sorry for the cliche), but I'm woman enough to wish them well.

Cumulus has a consultant for all of it's Classic Hit's or Rock-n-Roll Hits of the 60's & 70's Stations. This consultant works more with the smaller market stations. I'm sure he talks with Keith about trends... but this Consultant isn't watching WGRR like he does the other stations.

iluvo7.... Were still waiting for you to repond to the the answers given on your attack on WGRR. What would YOU do with that station???

"...Were still waiting for you to repond to the the answers given on your attack on WGRR."

To the "answers" given? I guess use fewer cliches, and empty language. Maybe learn to use spell check. Touch up on my punctuation. Find a new place for pulled pork. (Sorry but I've never liked ribs.) Honestly? I'm old and I'd fallen asleep by his 7th paragraph.

As for "attack?" Such a harsh word. I gave an opinion. That's all. That's what people do at radio-info.

But you know...what keeps me laughing is how this 50-something radio relic, who you clearly consider to be discredited and unimportant, was able to get into your heads. Hell, I haven't been inside a radio studio since 1993. Why should anyone give a damn about what I wrote? So again, I have to ask...if what I wrote was so trivial, why do you keep coming back to it? The only answer I can come up with is that, despite today's ratings, you remain extremely insecure about WGRR's present course.

Still, in an attempt to be gracious, I offer one last comment in response.

Bryant should have blown up the sock-hop for FM talk in 2004. But aren't you glad he didn't? :)

Cheers.

Never said that we discredited you, but now it makes sense if you haven't been in a Studio since 1993. Radio has changed so much since 1993... you really need to go back inside a studio and find out how much it has changed. If you look back... didn't radio change alot from 1983 to 1993??? Just in 10 years time from 97 to 2007, it's a night and day difference.

"...Never said that we discredited you, but now it makes sense if you haven't been in a Studio since 1993..."

Actually, I seem to recall that someone did use the word discredit. But that entry disappeared. Not sure why. The writer seemed like such a nice young man.

Remember, the radio studio is only one part of a radio station. If the studio centric braggarts I read around here represent todays' crop of dime a dozen, trying to score with the latest phone pig liner readers, I'll pass on the idea of a return.

Looks like my not setting foot in an air studio is what it takes to dismiss my viewpoint. So I'm happy for you. Now it's time for me to return to my well honed practice of ignoring people who refer to late 70s dance fads in their screen names.

Mike McVay does not consult WGRR as far as I know. With a screen name like Fraprishtehpunim, I just used a bit of inside radio humor. Did not mean to confuse anyone.

Last I heard the consultant for WGRR was Brian Wright from ADG?

I hated seeing WGLD make its abrupt descent into radio's history book. Still I admired Susquehanna for making the change with a clean cut... WGRR should have gone away - lock, stock and air staff - long before Cumulus took over.

Make that TWO-of-us... In regards to WGLD's demise [only] that is...

I have this nagging notion that while Dusty and his associates were resolving the fine print on the LMA with The God Squad [who had just purchased 1160 after it was “sacrificed to the Almighty” at co-channel WYLL to facilitate some “pattern-fattening”], they had at least an inkling that WGRR might also make an “abrupt decent into radio’s history book”. Remember... Susquehanna’s Indy-Jack was well-into its jukeish and thrifty retreat back into “the money demo” by that time. It may have worked-out better for the dinnerware folks had they not underestimated “The Russ Factor” at 101.9, WKLU. Oasis was having so-much fun honing the fine art of corporate radio hazing; “stopping the music ONLY-ONCE an hour”; and getting his tower INTO Marion County – Jack ended-up juxtaposed with the other mid-level feeders!

So The Indian might have changed its chant in Cincy; and jeepers-creepers Wally Cleaver – ‘GRR DIDN’T go-away – lock, stock, letters, and late-60s titles that WDJO had their eye on and hoped exclusivity with. 1160 ended-up assuming the “sock hop” left behind by then-1530, WSAI.

I think it’s reasonable to speculate that WGRR celebrates second-place today – in part BECAUSE of a decision by their prior ownership NOT to bury—instead choosing to “reform” it. Speaking of seconds... I’ll perform that style of motion and remind you of WCBS-FM [everyone else seems to drop their letters these days]. I have no earthly idea where these stations might fall in the BBQ biz, but I cannot spot an advantage secured by blowing their heritage up – and their listeners off [as The Indian-in-Indy did]. One DIDN’T [‘GRR]; one did [CBS-FM] and appears on its way to a second chance; and one will never reclaim the opportunity [WGLD—now the pathetic Indy-Jack]. If only Gold 104.5 had tried to “YOUTHanize” [opposed to euthanize] their loyal and later-revengeful audience—shepherding them oh-so-gently into the era of the smiley-face and occasionally, the “O-mi-god 80s”—how might this unfortunate history and loss been mitigated? ...And could Susquehanna’s lapse of judgement there have spared WGRR from a new identity as “Jack”, “Dick” [inspired by the Cloud Brothers], or “Marge at 103.5 FM” :D

hippo...The Indian never owned WGRR. It was swapped to Cumulus for the 94.9 frequency after Cumulus took over.

Sorry about your entire last post.

'Know what, E? ...Credit where credit is due—YOU’RE RIGHT! ‘GRR was CBS—Hot-Damn, all this corporate radio swapping is making me dizzy! Do I need to attend the Montgomery Inn and ease-drop on other tables to get it right?

Crux of the last post: ‘GRR was BETTER-OFF “evolving” back into the sacred “money demo” than nuking itself for “Jack”, “Dick”, “Marge at 103.5”, OR [GOD-FORBID—“Free-FM”] as was implied here earlier.

SORRY for the goof... I’ll have to give-up preparing posts at 5:30AM ::)
