Radio One Old School 100.3

Radio One Philly Plan to relaunch Wrnb as Old School 100.3 on monday 1st @ 5pm. they fire everyone except Lady B & Dyana Williams are expected to return thoughts? is Philly Ready for Old School

The ratings might have been a issue. They were the top billing station in the cluster for a while but I guess the winning streak ended. Old School in Dallas is playing more 90's I heard.

First, Philly's urban audience [ basically everyone under 50 ], grew up with rap, so going all old-school isn't that much of a stretch.
Second, WRNB has tip-toed around the concept every spring for the last few years, based on what i've heard them play. If they've been increasing ratings when they do this, they may be thinking of going all-out with the format this year.

How would this differ than WDAS-AM ?

WDAS-AM is basically everything before 1980, where my guess is that WRNB will go 1980-1999. The real question will be if WRNB is truly going R&B or will they continue to play rap from that same time period.

With WDAS-FM, you only hear the rap from the 80's and 90's in mixshows and during the syndicated fare. Will WRNB keep playing rap in all dayparts or not? That will tell the story.

They were the top billing station in the cluster when they were WPLY, Y-100!

Well if it's going to sound like Jammin' Gold 95.7 I suppose it will be a dismal failure, although I never understood why that station didn't last. The demos were right and the music was very good.

and it seems as if the station has dropped any promos for tom Joyner in the morning
i wonder if they are canning that show and going live and local in the morning's

Radio One launched Old School 105.3 in Charlotte at 5 PM on August 27, 2012.

Perhaps if it's a good brand, then other markets should get the same or similar.
It does very well down here in Charlotte.

I hope it will sound like Old School 105.7 The Oasis in Las Vegas.

105.7 in Vegas plays Freestyle. None of the Radio One Urban Oldies stations do that. The only good sounding Urban/Rhythmic Oldies station they had was WMOJ Mojo 100.3 in Cincinnati. Nows its CBS Sports. Joyner will return soon. Same thing happen in Dallas

I read an article either Thursday or Saturday that this was going to happen. It was official last week. Too bad I can't remember the site that broke the news.

An old school R&B station in the West Coast (outside Los Angeles and San Francisco) and the mountains is not the same as one in most markets between Dallas and the Atlantic Coast. The west coast ones carry a rhythmic ac or rhythmic oldies format due to the demographic makeup of mostly Whites and Hispanics.

The launch happened today at 5pm...
It sounded almost exactly the same as the Charlotte station launch.

The 1st song was "Atomic Dog" by George Clinton.

So far they sound good with a similar presentation & playlist as WOSF here in Charlotte.
