Radio One Old School 100.3

We'll get our answer tomorrow morning, but FWIW there are still links on their front page to bits from the TJMS.

First thoughts about the new format. It's too soft oldschool, less uptempo and feel good oldschool classics. Also the imaging is too lame.

Give them a chance to ease their listeners into the change. It's only been a day.

As for me, I won't have a real opportunity to scrutinize the change until friday, but i WILL have opinions come saturday.

I'm not too thrilled with the fact that they just played the SHORT version of "Dazz" by Brick when I've heard mainstream 70's oldies stations play the long version with the flute solo. Even 99-X in New York City (a mainstream top 40) played the long version back in the day...

Totally NOT agree. There is always one change to have a first impression...

As a non-black listener, I find that I like this format better than the prior WRNB format. I only opened myself up to old school after hearing 105.7 The Oasis played all over Vegas. I still would like a true Jammin Oldies station like the Internet station Jammin 105

http://www.jamminoldiesradio.com is the best example how it must sound like. Imaging, soundprocessing and format wise.

I have been listening since the final two hours of the previous WRNB format. While it may still be too early to really make a good review of how the new format sounds, it started off really fast paced and had lots of what you would expect on a Jammin type format. As the hours lingered on, it sounded like it was more of a soft jams type of station. The imaging seems okay for a start. Time will tell.

I don't know what is meant by "Jammin' Oldies", but you must remember that this is Philly's "Black" community that WRNB is going after.

If "Jammin' Oldies" means mostly uptempo, it'll only happen if Radio One tries to lure non-whites to the station. Since the death of the "No Rap Workday" in the early 90's, "Urban" radio in philly has cut down on playing multiple fast songs per segment, outside of their mixshows/mix-segments.

As a kid that came up with Funk & Disco, so I would appreciate a more uptempo presentation, but as I said, this is Philly, and it's slow to change what has worked or been done for decades.

Elroy Smith, program director for the newly named Old School 100.3, says Dyana Williams, Lady B and Tom Joyner will remain with the station, which will be going temporarily DJ-less for the next two months. Info from today's Daily News.

No live jocks for 2 months? Sounds like he's gonna let their contracts run out and start fresh in June.

I understand keeping the TJMS, because of syndication and such.

I've only heard Dyanna as a PT jock, so if she remains such, she could return.

As for Lady B, after hearing her and TouchTone, the not blind but leaglly blind mixjock, make fun of gays a month or two ago, she should stay kicked to the curb. That was the reason i stopped listening to WRNB. It's 2013 and making fun of gays is SOOOO 1980's. And it's worse coming from a grown ass woman in her 50's that still claims to represent Hip-Hop.

I tried to listen to WRNB yesterday. It was funny how everytime WDAS-FM played a rap, WRNB played a slow song, and during the time i listened, i heard WDAS-FM play Notorious B.I.G., Fresh Prince, Mase, and DJ Kool. I would have preferred it if WRNB played uptempo songs to combat the rap and save the slow jams for when WDAS-FM played commercials, but that's the way [uh huh, uh huh] i'd do it [uh huh, uh huh] ;D

Also, I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary on WRNB, execpt for a spot that talked about the old FOX theater at 16th & Market. You HAVE to be old-school to remember that place.

I am not a black person but have listened for a bit over the last week. I really like what I hear. I have always been a fan of the philly sound, motown and r&b in general so this works for me.

I like the new Old School formats too. I don't think it will last over the long term, though. There is only so much gold out there, combined with the fact Radio One doesn't go very deep, I think the station will get stale after a year or two and go back in an Urban AC direction.
