A very important fact to remember in this discussion:
Jammin' Oldies died because the creator of the format (Steve Rivers) did not work for the radio group that inherited most of the JO stations (Clear Channel). It was not because the stations didn't do well (at least until CC let them wither and die). The JO stations had a great first act, but they never brought out the second act. In NYC, the PD (without the reins of the corporate programmers) leaned the station to club level dance and urban while still using the "Jammin" imaging.
