No more than 3% of the availabe listening audience is paying attention to this station. Heck, there's more talk about it on this board than anyplace else. Some of their talent is good, and some of their music scheduling is a bit suspect to me. Oldies/Classic Hits/gold based AC doesn't have a home here because less than 3% of the available listening audience gives 2 rips. The format is served by Magic and BOB FM, which have heritage personalities, research, great promotion/marketing, and veteran sellers to represent the brands. KXBT? Research? Marketing? Joke.
Sirius/XM offers all of the music this station plays, commercial free, with talent that is arguably better. Don't tell me its about local content, either. Reading "today in rock history" and the top headlines from the statesman website, yahoo news, and a prep service doesn't equal compelling local radio.
BOB FM does a great job covering most of these titles, and I'm sure they test the library and know what works--they don't score a 2% or 3% share of the audience.
When you consider that KXBT's 3% is more likely 1% of the total local population, there's not much arguement that the format is a dud. KUTX's AAA format will draw 4-5%--just wait!
