Yes, the crazies have taken over the insane asylum...starting at midnight tonight (early Sat morning, that is,) it's Modern Classic Rock, with live shows most of the day Saturday and Sunday. Weekday mornings, it's the "GenX Radio Project" with all the pop and new wave hits of the 1980s. Here's the schedule so far:

Saturday:
Noon-3P The Larry Stanley Show, with former KLLI talker Larry Stanley. It's guy talk, topical talk, and a little irreverent fun.

3PM-6PM "70s Saturday Afternoon" with Jim Thomas

(Starting next Saturday, it's the Jay Weaver Show [dj/talk/nostalgia] from 9AM-noon)

Sunday:
9AM-noon The Randy Carlisle Show [dj/talk/nostalgia]

Noon-3PM The Mike Shannon Show

3PM-6PM The Hi-Fi Club

(Starting next Sunday, it's the Bud Buschardt Oldies Show, 3:30PM-6:30PM)

Weekdays:
Midnight to 7AM Retro Radio classics (modern classic rock)

7AM-11AM (with replay from 11AM-3PM) GenXRadio Project, with host Chad Hoker

3PM-7PM Retro Radio classics (modern classic rock)

7PM-midnight Rational Radio's progressive talk network

MUCH more to come...I'm setting up some on-air radio station reunions and taking suggestions for 'classic DJs to come by and spin a few.

Info will be posted on www.thehificlub.net this evening. Streaming also available there.

What is an example of Modern Classic Rock? To me that means The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, Book of Love, Ministry...

Modern Classic rock, now that sounds like an oxy-moron (pun intended)! Why not call it classic alternative? That would be more appropriate! Either way, I hope that the new powers-that-be can bring some sort of life and hope back to AM. Is there any chance that the station could be a pioneer in a quality analog transmission standard, Like AMAX or something similar?

http://km5r.kicks-ass.org:8000 is the new streaming link, thanks to RadioChik!!

Modern Classic Rock is basically 1975-95, Boston to Nirvana. Pop/rock, but nothing slow, nothing weak...and not all 'top hits'--some deep cuts and lost treasures as well. In other words, "Playing What MIKE Wants." ;D

The KXOL calls are in use in LA right now...sorry!

George Gimarc "hasn't worked for free since college," so no go there. We did try.

Nah, no choices on enhanced analog...but 1360 does have far better equalization than most AM's. Try the stream if it gets irritating!

Cool thanks for the stream. Oddly enough i think im getting
KMNY right now but lots of interference
Ahh PLS file glad i have Winamp

12:00 AM Sat.
"The next 5 hours have been purchased by Rational Broadcasting" Dead Air.....

Nooooooooooooooooo.....!!!! I promise it's not intentional!

"We're experiencing technical difficulties, please stand by."

(Then repeated on the air in Espanol just in case.)

As of 1AM, Chad, the OM and I are still working on the problem. Anyone have experience with "Media Touch"?

wait theres actually ppl supposed to be on right now?
Sounds good anyway. Glad RadioCHick has that stream up.
where i am 1360 is gospel.

As for media touch
what the heck is that?

[edit] 1:12 AM
OMG THE MUSIC SUDDENLY STOPPED!!!!!!!!!
song[abrupt stop} "KMNY Hurst Dallas"[dead air.......]
But i can hear some ppl in the background......
And at 1:16 AM it appears u restarted the playlist....
:D but none the less its sounded great so far

I'm trying to listen to the stream but this is what the page says:

Server Status: Server is currently up and private.

So what the heck does that mean? Do I have to join that streaming site as a member to listen?

:(

Jim Thomas is on right now with "70s Saturday Afternoon" (remember 70s Sat Night?) until 7PM. Check out his site, www.70ps.com. There's a link to streaming there as well.

Sorry, haven't had time to update the www.thehificlub.net site...full schedule coming soon!

And let me know what you think...suggestions, [email protected].

And the Modern Classic Rock starts TONIGHT (early Sun AM) at midnight. All appears to be fixed and operational now.

Who the hell are any of those guys? Why are they on the air? Surely this is temp....

Wow, thanks for the vote of confidence!! :(

Let's see...I'm the PD and host of "The Hi-Fi Club" (Mike Shannon, WBAP and WFAA-TV traffic, and KDNT-AM and KLUV back in the day, plus the www.knus99.com site.) Jim Thomas has been in the DFW market forever, with stints at WFAA-AM, KAAM-AM, and perhaps best known for his "70s Saturday Night" show on KDMX and KBFB for over 9 years. Bud Buschardt--if you don't know who this guy is, you must be new in town. Try Google. Ray Whitworth is another "Hi-Fi" host, and has been in radio for 36 years in DFW and San Antonio, including KLIF-1190, WBAP and others. Chad Hoker is another "Hi-Fi" host, who's been in radio sales for nearly 15 years and wanted to try his hand at jocking. Jay Weaver spent many a year at KBUY in the 1960s and 70s, and worked at KDNT and KRLD as well. Larry Stanley was a talk show host at KLLI-Live 105.

That's who the hell we are, thank you. Regardless of the name recognition or lack thereof, we're each radioheads who are doing this for FREE, for the love of radio, and to show that the 'old way' can still work.

Yes, it's temporary; we're likely gone by July 1. If you've read the other posts, you'll know that we're filling the void between the end of BizRadio's contract and the beginning of Rational Radio's 24/7 contract at KMNY.

So, indeed, we're just here to have fun. I've let each jock program their own show, music and all (strange concept, huh?) and it resembles block programming. We're commercial free. And based on streaming results and the quantity of phone calls, people are actually listening!

Listening to The Real Oldies Show..........even heard some old Country Stuff.Sounds Great. 8)

That's Randy Carlisle on the air, a guy who's never been in front of a mic before (professionally, at least) until today, and is taking right to it. He's got a knowledge of early pop music akin to Hubcap Carter.
