Key to programming a successful gold based station though in the world of Napster and Itunes is to have a deep playlist. At least 800 songs if not twice that many. Run three cats, a "heavy rotation" of the stongly tested songs that may play 7-12 times per week, a secondary category that may play 0-2 times per week, and a light rotation that may play once a month.
That said, the ladies in my office didn't really get that excited about an 80s music station when I mentioned it to them today and neither realized 94.9 was playing country.

This is NOT MOJO reborn. If anything, this is Columbus's old Star 1079. MOJO is RHYTHMIC/JAMMIN OLDIES. These are 80s and 90s Party Classics. Duran Duran, Huey Lewis, etc. was not on MOJO 949

Im not on the payroll in the sense you may be thinking.
Bonneville is a great company with A LOT OF MONEY. They have the most experienced PD's at the helm in Salt Lake that make the shots.
The reason they moved Wolf to 94.9 was simple. There was a buyer in the wings that Bonneville knows and they were planning on flipping 94.1 to Country. So Bonneville jumped the gun and flip-flopped formats. After Cumulus got the stations and realized that they are a bit cash strapped, a big guns country station was most likely out of the picture.
Bonneville owns the Country market in Cincy and they know that. Cumulus could go country on one of their signals, but to make any difference in the market they would have to staff it around the clock.
Remember 97.3 is going to be 25,000 watts eventually making it one of the best signals in the city.
I have listened to Rewind for a few hours now, and wow...its really a great station! Its core is 80's music geared for the 30-40 something woman, but it spices in the biggest later 70's hits and fun music from the 90's that keep those 30 somethings interested.
As for the golds being flops...what lovejamminoldies are you talking about? These songs ARE NOT FLOPS. Listen to any AC station or Hot AC that plays a lot of gold 80's...those are HITS!

It's like they're setting up The Sound to fail, or it proves that this was not a thought out process. Take your pick.
I think it's both.
So, is it a possibility that Cumulus will flip 94.1 to an alternative-type station now that the Sound is kaput?

I apologize also to those who I offended with the bashing of Rewind. I have to remember I am 17 and this is NOT the station for me. I used to LOVE the old MOJO, and when I hear 80s that belong on a Mix station, I'm like... UGH. I really want MOViN and I really want Rhythmic Oldies. Can I have one??? LOL

Agreed... I think they will within the weeks. They probably just wanted to go ahead and launch. However, assuming they were planning this for awhile - they should have the playlist done.
I am in my mid/late 30s and I really enjoy listening to the new Rewind. It kind of sounds like the old Mix 94.1 back in the "Wakin up with Whoopi" days with a little Mojo mixed in.

Rhythmic AC is dead in the water...When Emmis flipped 93.9 KMVN AND is paying the remainder of Rick Dees' contract to sit at home that speaks volumes. This format will never see the light of day around here, unless it is on an HD2 signal, and even that seems highly unlikely.
From looking at the logs on Yes.com Rewind looks tightly programmed to only include the most well-known 80s tunes, as well as late 70s and early 90s. This will only work for so long...eventually they're going to have to go deeper ala Star 107.9 in Columbus. 80s music isn't everyone's cup of tea, however it looks like Bonneville is looking for an older female demo for 94.9 for some reason. I'm really surprised that Bonneville is going with 80s Oldies in such a big market like Cincy. I didn't even know the format still existed. ???
