Rhyner will speak on Greggo issue today @ 5:10........

The most upsetting part to me is the realization that, for an extended peiod of time now, life was neither hunky or dory on the hardline. It felt to me, as we listened that things were great between all parties. Its discouraging to find out that was not the case.

My thoughts exactly. I think "The Presentation" really hasnt been relevent for awhile and its suffered for it. I think the perverbial "on deck circle" needs to be cleaned out and replaced with a new crew.

I'm still stuck on Rhyner's "we don't owe the listeners anything" aspect. He's correct in a sense, but, there are a lot of "good" shows on the air that get 0.00 ratings, are their bosses happy? Rhyner appears to be on a tangent to be remembered like Chapman, et al. We all get it Rhyner, you came up with the idea for the Ticket, your buddy started the station, you were the first PD, etc. Maybe after Jordan gets done at USC he will go do Petite Theft duty full time. From what I hear from a friends daughter at USC, that might be awhile though...

I took that statement to be 'we dont owe you a complete and total explanation...Think about how many other stationsblow out a jock, or change the whole damn format and never address it...

They addressed what they could...

And as for someone's comment upthread about using his drops- I've been told that in all likelihood, the stations DOES own the 'rights' to use his voice, just if they are in teh middle of a lawsuit, a corporate owner probably doesn't want to give the other side any ammo to use in a battle-

BINGO! Did The Wolf say anything on air about Amy B, Bobby Mitchell, or Hollywood when they left? No. Did they tell the listeners who called in anything? No, nobody even acknowledged it. Ron Chapman's retirement and the brief chat about Greggo yesterday were two of the 3 times in my career that I have EVER heard the departure of a big-time personality addressed on the air. The only other time was when I amateurishly announced during my last shift at the first station I worked at that I was leaving to go off to college.

Ummm, folks some jocks do make departure announcements. Wendi from Y95 did it, for example. Bill Sherrard from KEOM did it too.

I think the "we don't owe you anything" has more to do with the legal issues in this particular situation, than anything else.

I agree. I'm not a Ryner fan but I think it was more a "shorthand" unfortunate choice of words for a complicated situation. He's arrogant, but his actions over the years make it clear that he does feel he owes the listeners a lot.

I think today's explaination shows just how 'out of the loop' we P-1s are.
It seems to me that many of GW's absences over the past couple of years have been more drug-related than we thought.

As much as the show seemed to be running along smoothly, obviously there were a lot of potholes in the Hardline Highway.

Today's revelations were probably the last we will really hear. The HIPPA and HR issues will keep us from knowing the 'back story'.

PD

Is Mike Greggo's Boss or Supervisor ? ?

If not, then, as a co-worker, why couldn't mike address this issue in an interview with a Newspaper ? ? ?

Mike is arrogant, as many are in Sports media. Many are not. Arrogance is just a marketing tool. It never impresses me. Dale, are you listening ? ?

I'm not a lawyer but my guess is that unless the story comes straight from the source (Greggo) it could be potentially used as fodder in a defamation lawsuit.

ask any manager or HR type. HIPAA stops them from commentting on ANY person;s medical situation-
and it applys to the bosses and the employees- you are flat out in violation of federal law if you release somebody elses 'private' medical information.

It's so ridiculous, that I've been told that if one of my "minions" calls me and takes a sick day, and tells me why he/she is out, all I can tell OTHER people is that they are taking a sick day. I can't say "he has the flu, a cold, the clap, etc", all I can say is he/she is taking a sick day...

I would assume that Rhyner et al are in the same boat. And there's a fine line between what they learn 'offically' from the station, and what they read here, the Observer, etc...So they've probably been told to keep ANY commenting on it to a bare minimum...

So all they can really do is respond when Greggo leaks info he wants out to Richie at the DO...Because if you notice, that's what is happening- Greggo decides he wants to let everybody know he's inrehab, he leaks it to Richie.

He wants everyone to know he's out and talking to 105 and ESPN, he leaks it to Richie...

Greggo could come out tomorrow and talk all he wants about this, but he's not willing to screw up whatever exit deal he's trying to work out with Cumulus, obviously...if he comes out and says too much, he gives info to Cumulus...

And my horse sense they're arguing over how much of a severance he should get- did he quit or was he fired? I bet KTCK says he quit, he wasn't there to do his show....I bet Greggo's claiming he was fired, they didn't want him back, etc...

So now they argue out who is right...

Also I'm sure they are working out the Non Compete. But like I said in an earlier post, what station would hire him if he has been in some type of drug rehab program for at least 3 known times?

Yes folks, the Ticket has released the only information they can. C&D's, potential litigation, privacy laws and other legal issues at play here, force everyone at The Ticket to restrict what they say regarding this matter. This includes no talking to newspaper reporters, TV reporters or other forms of media, about this situation.

We all need to move on until (and if) Greg decides to tell us himself.

Does anyone think that Mr. Williams will ever come out and reveal what happened. What are the chances that anyone ever tells the P-1's the "BACKSTORY"

I think Greg will go public with all the seedy details once all the legal hand wringing ends and I certanily look forward to that. Seeing Mike Rhyner is a master in both covering his own backside and vested interest to boot, the chances of getting the real story from him is next to nil, and frankly thats a sad state of affairs from a man who once prided himself in being upfront with his audience, screw HIPPA or anything else. Im hoping Greg gets that slot at 105.3, as they seem to have success with bringing in talent whos been bounced by other stations(RMS,BDH).

I pray that Mr. Williams will get better, but do you think CBS or anybody else will give him a chance. He is brutal both on and off the air.

By noting these, and many others, posts, Greggo will sell that backstory before Richie Whitt gets another touch of it. Um, did I mention I have been an editor for many successful writers. Is he reading this? Just checking. 8)

Lester wanted to stay traditional and Earl to this day is/was a progressive and he had pretty much lost interest in performing and being on the road anyway, how is that related to the goings on at the little Ticket?

The connection between Flatt and Scruggs and Rhyner and Williams is that they all seem to have that Ozark mentality even though that might be underestimating Flatt and Scruggs. Rhyner sounds like they got him off the back of a truck.
