RIP 104.7 The Fish

I’m guessing 106.7 will retain K-LOVE while 104.7 becomes Air1?

Looking at coverage maps I would say probably - EMF tends to put K-Love on the strongest of their signals and 106.7 has an edge over 104.7 there.

Big loss for ATL with the local talent losing their jobs. Salem's syndicated CCM morning show Kevin and Taylor originated out of ATL I believe which aired on some of their other properties in various dayparts.

Will KLove get the "intellectual property"? If not what underperforming FM in Atlanta will go Fishing?
Even if Salem will theoretically sell the IP separately, no commercial operator is going to buy it. Salem was the only operator of commercial CCM stations in any large market as far as I know.

A new CCM outlet would be a new brand in a market with three already established CCM stations, all of which are listener supported (KLove on 106.7, TheJoyFM on 93.3, and what has been the Fish at 104.7).

My three guesses for a possible commercial CCM station in Atlanta is iHeart using 105.3 and possibly 105.7 in tandem. Audacy not being happy with 94.1's growth. A real longshot is WJZA dropping smooth Jazz.

It's a very different business from what conventional radio companies do. It's not just another music format.

The format on commercial radio is virtually dead. I missed the sign on due to be on the west coast at the Fish sign on but a week later I was back home. I begged Salem to put the Fish on 104.7 when they got it from Cox and listened to first Fish online from Orange County. KLTY in Dallas proved to me the format could really sound like a "regular" station with great sounding music with better words.

Am I reading this correctly that Salem’s majority shareholder will be a non profit? Is that meaningful to their radio operations?

Did you read the details about that non-profit? It reads like a pyramid scheme.

The main thing I get from it is that Salem needs an investor to get into more digital content, and WaterStone is in that business. What does it mean to their radio operations? I think they see the writing on the wall.

Not only air talent. The Fish has some top-notch people in other areas of the operation, starting with Regional VP and General Manager Val Carolin.

Does anyone know approximately how much 104.7 billed?
Couldn't have been that much, with ratings as high as they were and Salem having debt problems. Also, their spot load seemed small. Great for listeners but not for the financials.

I would bet 104.7 The Fish makes a good amount of money. I highly doubt the station has anything to do with Salem's long-term debt. It's a very small piece of the Salem empire.

The Salem "Empire" has a market value of $16 million. That is with the stock price up from 21cents to 59 cents ( up 198%). At 2pm today. They still can be delisted.
