Yeah, but totally different format.

Stardust (adult standards, meaning Sinatra and Barry Manilow) for the first ten years, then a watered down version for the last two, which people hated so much it was cancelled.

I had questions about why they added the suffix as well. Maybe it was planned.
 
Have they made an announcement yet to the Mix listeners regarding the sale of the stations? Or too early yet, I guess. But if they are keeping the WLNK call letters, it may imply that Mix is moving to another frequency. As it does not appear they have said anything about Mix coming to an end. But I just don't see a music format moving to 1110, although apparently there may still be yet another signal switch within the cluster.
 
I'd doubt they'll even make an announcement since there's no other station in the cluster to redirect that demographic to. Typically, in these scenarios, the airstaff is let go and the station runs jockless in its final days/weeks and just goes away.

Well I would hope they would find another home for Mix, which seems like maybe they are holding out hope by preserving the WLNK call letters for a potential move or future use. Even if it is an HD2 signal or an internet stream, although not ideal.
 
Maybe Beasley might think to add more throwbacks to 95.1 and run it like 107.5 KZL in Winston-Salem, so that it sounds more like a HOT AC station.

Implying they should flip to Hot AC to fill the void from WLNK? It does seem they should do something to differentiate 96.1 from 95.1, as they seem to be losing the CHR battle. Maybe go back to Rythmic CHR like when they were 96.1 the Beat. But bringing back Fred in the morning seems to be a good move.

Yes it would be nice if that translator goes dark or could be relocated, so you could once again receive B93.7 from Greenville-Spartanburg. Another choice for CHR. But at my location in Spartanburg I can flip between 93.7, 95.1, and 96.1. And previously 107.9 for AC variation when it was Mix, but now I choose between the 2 Lakes, 102.9 and 102.5.
 
iHeart has improved the ratings for WHQC. The new morning show seems to be helping. Just because X format is not in the market doesn’t mean it’s a good choice for someone else to pick it up. Mix has had mediocre ratings at best for years. We aren’t talking about a top 5 station here.

As has been pointed out many times on these boards, and I’ve learned, not every station is programmed to be #1 or top 5 even. WHQC may bill well, and/or iHeart sees it as a part of their cluster sales strategy. Maybe the goal isn’t to overtake WNKS but to keep it from being a stronger staton. There’s much more to it than “X station has dropped X format, somebody needs to do it!”

Gotcha, thanks, Lance. Didn't see/know of 93.5 change. Yeah, so obvious, even a blind man can see it LOL. Wait, did BBN get rid of 93.5? With the callsign change, it sounds like one of theirs (not YF but YH), but again, can't see the documentation.
 
Hmm…WLNK status has returned to “pending”. Maybe R1 is awaiting the WMXG (99.3) sell to be granted so it syncs up the handoff 🤔
