Rock 104.5 is retiring

I am waiting until at least midnight before I call it a night on this. Its either flip it at 11pm or midnight. I don't see them waiting until 6am on this flip.

So I tune to 102.9. Some crappy Mumford & Sons song is playing. Way to alienate your new listeners, X!

I hope CC sees a chance to bring Planet back.

This is like the craziest thing they could do to us....make our minds go crazy on what they are trying to do. I understand the stunting is a tactical part of radio, but then I have seen stations just flip without even stunting.

I am assuming they are only going to do this stunt for so long since they have been promoting X102.9 for the last few weeks. Listeners should know by now where to go.

As "crazy" as the stunting may be to some, the fact remains we are all listening which is exactly what Cox wants us to do.

Don't be so quick to give listeners so much credit. There will be plenty of people through the month of May asking "What happened to Rock 105?" They won't even refer to it as Rock 104.5. I've read enough listener comments through Arbitron's "PD Advantage" to know that most radio listeners hear what they want to hear and retention is minimal.

Mark, I agree...we are doing what they want us to do and which is why I think it won't be long before they flip the switch. Right now is the perfect time because it has been spread around and everyone is listening to find out what is going to happen. If this was a normal Sunday, I say no they wouldn't do it, but this is no normal Sunday for Jacksonville.

BostonRandy, very interesting that you bring that up. Good point!

also i tried to record OTA, but no dice. ok, some dice, but los of static and mono, the format change i didn't get, but this loop i did record it.

They got us going....they are doing a good job of it!

However, I do not think Country is the format of choice....I see WQIK was below a 5 share the last PPM book....that means WGNE has to be kicking them in the rear for them to be that low.

Regional Mexican....just can't see such a format like that considering it seems that format is already being covered.

Choices seem to be to move Power up, launch Soft AC or move WOKV...or even at this point surprise us with a move no one saw coming!

Another country station will mean professional suicide as the market is already over saturated with country music, so 104.5 will not be country. There are not enough Hispanics residing within the 104.5 service contour to justify "blowing up" a 100,000 watt Top 50 market FM to make room for any Spanish language format. Howeverv, out of the existing Jacksonville format voids, I see either WOKV-FM, "Power", or some form of easy listening as the most logical choices. Where is JohnJax to chime in?!
