Rock 106.7

Just heard a promo on "Rock 100.5" stating that Friday will bring a "combination of two compounds that will cause a chemical reaction", or something to that effect. It's official in all but name: prepare for 100.5 the Bone.

Thought I'd share some of what I wrote on my Facebook wall:

106.7 was originally thought to be in the mix on this...though new info from the sales department tells me it won't be. Just a merger of Rock and Bone on 100.5 with AAA/Alt or Classic Hits taking over the 98.9 frequency. The Bone- a format run by legendary Alt. DJ Axel Lowe- already features a decent amount of Alternative/AAA product. This hints to me that it could very well be part of the focus of a very broad, modern-leaning Active Rock. Rock 100.5 has been heavily 90s lately, something that goes along well with Active and Alternative formats. Now, 98.9 The Walk seems like it's going to be a soft-leaning, singer/songwriter-focused AAA format. Dave- but without the classic rock lean it had in its last months.

The one thing I am hoping DOESN'T happen is that the new station dumps all the hard 80s rock/metal, like 96 Rock did when they flipped to Project. I like Rock100.5's newer sound as of late, but I also like how they play more older hard rockin' 70s/80s stuff than Project did.

Cumulus should really put classic hits on 97.9.
IIRC Journey did good for a translator station, and probably would have done better with a broader, more Jack-like playlist.

Thought I'd pass around another email from my source- who does sales department things over at Cumulus. It's the same source that told me about Bone to 100.5. Now the story sounds different. Take a look:

To: Jim Von Rayneer
From: XXXXXXXXXXXXX
Being here at Cumulus, we know very little about what's really going on. What we do know is most of what you've already reported: a new station will take over the airwaves at 98.9. It will be known as "The Walk." Our discussions hint a frequency change for 106.7, with Bone moving to 100.5, 99x moving to 97.9 and Rock being displaced. Things are pretty unknown, and what we know is a little shaky. Don't count on this being set in stone.

I'd like comment that I appreciate our sources very much, and I think I need to clear some things up. I referred to my source as being directly employed by All News 106.7, this is simply not true. I was confused as to who it was, and for that I am truly sorry. I'd like to share that after this flip occurs, I'll be taking a two week hiatus. I think it is needed.

Thanks,
Jim

So wait a minute. They're also bringing back 99X at 97.9?

I have it on good authority that Jennifer's sister Katy used her influence to get her that job. And when Katy was asked how she felt about her sister's hiring, she responded, "I'm wide awake."

Which would be kinda hard to do since the singer's actual given name is Katy Hudson (she picked the name so as not to be confused with Goldie Hawn's daughter... now she finds herself in the same business with the likes of The Band Perry  )...

So at this point, the only real change sounds like The Bone is going away to be replaced by The Walk (I presume Monday since they mentioned the simulcast going away in Monday) and Rock 100.5 is taking a few of the Bone DJs and shifting to more modern rock at 10. Nothing Rock 100.5 is saying or promoting suggests anything about a frequency change, at least not so far.

So is it safe to assume that maybe they want to make the format change first, let that settle in and then switch 100.5 and 106.7 at a later date? Maybe as to not displace too many listeners at one time.

I heard they're going to Asian programming as 98.9 The Wok.

Well ... Atlanta does have at least two Chinese takeout places called "Wok N Roll".

I'm voting Christian AC for 98.9 on account of the fact Cumulus does already have a traffic guy named "Christian", he could do mornings.

Well, folks. It's looks as though, The Bone and Rock 100.5 did indeed merge to become the new Rock 100.5 with a simulcast at 98.9. So The Bone is officially no more. Q100, Q100 20, and KICKS 101.5 are all off the hook. As for "The Walk" possibility, that's not happening. Anyway, that is all.
