RUMBA is already Ka-Put

Complaints!?!? C'mon people be glad that Alternative is back on a signal that covers the market. Good move I say. Give this thing time to breathe before knocking it down. This will be interesting to watch.

104.5 is alternative rock?! Is that what you call it?

It may be alternative, but I can't really get my hopes up for a Clearchannel station. At most, it's good enough to bump something else off of my presets. Guess I'll get rid of 87.7 -- but I'll miss playing Jeopardy when I'm driving around every night at 7.

A quick note...

If they want to win the Alternative crowd in Philly.... I don't think Creed is gonna help.

Other than that... even though it's gold-centered right now... I am digging the music mix. Let's see how this evolves.

Agreed. I've been listening to Y-Rock pretty steadily since the beginning of this year, and if 104.5 continues to interrupt a decent flow of Gorillaz & Garbage with U2 / Creed / Coldplay, I won't hesitate to switch back. No sense in having another station if half of the playlist is going to mirror that of WMMR's.

What a joke. At first I thought this thread was a hoaxnow I am in disbelief at the reality. Are they reacting to Skin?

No, no one is reacting to Skin Radio (who is now UTCWOAP, by the way). This is Clear Channel. They reacted to WMMR bringing in what Q and Power did combined (revenue).

Is this a hard room? It should be! This is market #7 - impress me for once! Don't plug a hard drive into your automation with 300 songs on it and then ask me what they should play - they've already made up my mind for me. Don't put a radio station on the air and call it "Radio." What the hell is that? Don't use that bloated typewritter font as your logo - it's supposed to be cool and edgy - I see right through it 'cause you're trying too hard to be cool and edgy. And, by golly, it's another station going after the 18-34 audience. Aren't Q102, My 106.1, and Radio all going after 18-34 crowd now?

CC/Philadelphia president and market manager Manuel Rodriguez: "We are thrilled to bring this unique format to Philadelphia!"

It's like they opened up photoshop and said, "Now, what appeals to the youngsters these days?"

"Sneakers! Yeah, they like those chuck taylor shoes in all the different colors! And spiked belts, don't forget those!"

Eh, I'm torn. They went from Moby to Ramones now to Modest Mouse. If you cut out the Moby, it'd be passable.

Put a human being on the air and take some phone calls, for chrissake.

Radio and Records says Rumba moved to 1480

"“We are thrilled to bring this unique format to Philadelphia!” added CCR/Philadelphia president and market manager Manuel Rodriguez. “In addition, we have moved Rumba down the dial to 1480 AM so we will continue to serve the Rumba listeners as well."

The term "radio" seems to have been used for modern rock stations in other markets..Hartford, CT had "Radio 104" before flipping to urban a few years back...I've also seen "Channel" used as well.

agree, the playlist in a format like this should clearly exceed 300 songs. You could have a 1200 song playlist easily. Why is it that no stations really ever seem to go beyond 300 songs in the library at one time? These "Formats" really dont represent how people listen to music.

to boot, every track I've heard over the past two hours is two years old, at minimum. They're aren't playing ANY new music.

I mean, hell, Modest Mouse's 2007 track "Dashboard" has been #1 at Y-Rock for weeks. So these guys play "Float On" from 2004?

edit: more news coverage

They've been on the air for all of three hours. They've played what... 45 songs total? Calm down and see how it evolves.

They have played Green Day's "Working Class Hero" and the new Plain White T's track... but otherwise are heavy on 90s and some 80s too

Clear Channel, in its press release, is calling the format Adult Alternative.
So, it won't be like Y-100 was or even like Y-Rock on WXPN. It'll be a more commercial version of WXPN's main hours.
Check out these stations in other markets - it'll probably be similar to them: WBOS, Boston; WXRT, Chicago; KFOG, San Francisco. They all do the AA format, but aren't non-commercial. BOS is owned by Greater Media, XRT and FOG are owned by CBS.
And as for male-female: most AA stations have the best "balance" of the sexes, coming close to 50-50 listenership. I think CC is aiming 25-44 as far as age goes. This isn't for the college-age crowd, either.
Don't look for in-your-face imaging. Many of these stations go "anti-radio": no hype, no loud DJs, no contests, etc.
Those of you looking for your Active/Alternative might like 1/3 of the music, but this won't be entirely what you're looking for.

XPN is AAA. The second "A" is "Album." This AA "Adult Alternative" format is hit based and seems a little bit harder than XPN's format. But, I agree, this isn't Y-100 and it isn't WYSP. It leans more female than those stations did.

Mike, you hit the nail on the head with it's comparison to Lucy on XM54.

Only difference is the current stuff from 2005, 2006, and 2007.

and you just get the feeling that you'll be hearing alot of those 45 songs...modest mouse float on every 4 hrs....
