Rumours? Is CBS Changing Formats

htowler said:
Well CBS Did hype up the Return of CBS-FM for a few days before it happened.
Thanks for pointing that out....you are correct. However, that was a VERY special and anticipated occasion on a super-heritage station. That probably helped them get some press. But normally, there is no notice. Of course there are rumors around here, but they don't stunt very much. It's usually straight in to the new format.

If WXRK does go....wonder if the calls will go back to their 92.3 in Cleveland.

Probably not, as Cleveland's former "K-Rock" is now known as "Radio 92.3". Plus, I believe CBS is in the process of selling off their Cleveland radio properties... Maybe they'll be "parked" on one of their AM stations...

1010 K-Rock..."You give us 22 minutes, we'll give you non-stop rock" ;D

Yikes. I agree, I think Fresh 102.7 is a more solid station, And a great idea, to hook the new generation of a/c listeners. Over time it would have paid off more I think.

The only reason I can think CBS would stay with KRock is that:

A) They're hoping for WRXP 101.9 to go under, catch their listeners, and then Maybe hope that if Sirius crashes, that they can somehow get Stern back on?

B) Or they say WLTW's numbers jump up so high in the PPM recently that they have given up, and consider it a lost cause to try and catch up.

*Sigh, Yet another flavor of the month at 102.7. Rock, Talk, Infomercials, Top 40, Blink 102, Classic Dance Mix, Fresh 102.7, Geez, why not just become one of those Variety University Public Radio Formats........ *Slaps head to face and realizes this was just done in Boston with "Radio You"

Seriously though, I guess an Amp Radio format might work,

---Personally I think they should leave Fresh 102.7 Alone, and switch 92.3 to either Alternative (like Krock 2), or If they wanted to be "mean" they could go after Emmis's back up HD2, and do Smooth Jazz. I just think that NYC is so saturated with Pop music music variants, that the numbers wouldnt be impressive due to oversaturation.

Have to admit though, When 102.7 did go Top-40 for that short time (before blink 102?) I did listen often, so who knows.

It really would be moronic to flip Fresh before K-Rock. Then again, it's CBS Radio, so it won't come as a complete surprise.

It certainly would be pretty stupid to expect K-Rock to get a bump if RXP goes under. K-Rock's numbers were no better before RXP came along than they are now, and I suspect they probably won't see any bump at all if RXP goes away.

As for Lite FM's numbers, they must realize it's from the Christmas music that gave Lite the extraordinary bump. Perhaps, next Christmas, they would stand to benefit by putting the holiday tunes on Fresh and leaving CBS-FM as is, as CBS-FM didn't get much of a bump from the holiday music. Fresh is also one of the top stations in NYC in cume, and it would seem to be that all it would take to increase the ratings would be to make some tweaks to increase TSL. Certainly seems like a far surer bet than throwing out the format completely when it isn't even doing badly.

102.7's stunt as a CHR back in 2003 really shouldn't count...it barely showed up in the ratings, though it wasn't on for more than a couple of months and of course wasn't promoted at all.

If they really did want to be bold though, they could put CHR on 102.7 and K-Rock2 on 92.3 and try to really put the squeeze on Z100!

I think K-ROCK should have a harder edge to distinguish themselves from the Q and 'RXP. They barely even play Metallica these days and instead are adding more songs from 1967 (the Doors, the Who, Deep Purple, Stones, seriously)- they might as well start playing the Strawberry Alarm Clock and the Electric Prunes and grab some of 'CBS-FM's audience. ;D

Now isn't Fresh 102.7 doing better then 95.5plj? I thought so. Not sure about demo ratings.

And now about AMP Radio. Why does that article think just because CBS Radio is flipping 97.1 from FM Talk to AMP Radio that CBS Radio would place that format on one their stations here. But if CBS Radio wanted to do Pop do it on 92.3. Scrap the rock format and let Clear Channel and Emmis battle with it. CBS does have markets else where that their is a Pop and AC stations. Like Pittsburgh with B 94 and Star 100.7, Charlotte with Kiss 95.1 and K 104.7. So why not New York City too Fresh 102.7 and maybe AMP 92.3
