OR IT MIGHT BE:

STRANGE BUT TRUE by Times Two

...(I'm not sure)...

There will be a secret song at some point during the show. Hint: it was a HUGE hit in DFW during the mid 80s even though it never cracked the Top40 charts.

R

The only one I can think of that fits that description is "I Know I'm Losing You" by Uptown, recorded in Dallas and on the "Oak Lawn" label. Late 1986, I believe.

Mike,

It was Wham Rap by Wham.

So we're up to page #5 in this thread now? Wow...

If you missed the show last night, you missed FEED THE PIG!

Also, quite a few HAVE / DON'T HAVE challenges on the show!

Catch the encore at 4:00 PM Central on Monday!

Here's the Unofficial Show Recap for Reelin' in the Hits, March 30, 2013 Edition:

I LIKE IT - Dino (yep, probably a Y-95 song)

ELECTRIC BLUE - Icehouse (1988??)

LOVE CHANGES (EVERYTHING) - Clime Fischer (1988!!)
-didn't get above 69 in US, but what a classic late 1980's CHR tune
--Not the secret song, but used R-D suggestive selling to get this played!!

TURTLE POWER - Partners in Kryme - fm soundtrack to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
-sounded like an updated version of "On Out Own" from Bobby Brown / the Ghostbusters II Theme

A Direct to Air Cassette Single FAIL; yes, Bass has a functional cassette machine

The Bass Master also has a functional broadcast cart machine? Yes, apparently so.. Feed The Pig segment was played from CART. Man that swine sounds vicious. I think I know her.

MISLED - Kool & The Gang - was kick ass in 1983, haven't heard it in a million years.
-sounded just like the lyrics in the first verse said, "Someone texting should I think about you." What did Kool and the gang know about the future in '83, huh??

WHAM RAP - The original Wham song. Released 1982 and re-released after they were established
-according to Bass, the official secret song

POINT OF NO RETURN - Expose - w/ original lead vocal before the group changed and the song was reissued with the weaker lead vocal.
-A Bass Master was challenge and delivered! (that was a tough one)

RITH definitely the most original, most exciting thing on Saturday nite radio; originating from Mesquite, Texas. Should be fluttering in the airwaves of Terrestrial Radio...

The LG-73 chat room feature is real fun; continuous interaction between listeners and the host, unlike any other experience.

Wow, that there is a 1970's vintage SP/RP series ITC Cart Machine (looks like it has the record amp too? would be an SP?)

Each cart is labelled so pristine it's unbelievable. (And he really has the pig to boot)

AND the lights work. I can't believe it, the lights work. I haven't seen an ITC RP cart machine with working start / stop lights since Norm Phillips ran Susquehanna technical operations, circa late 1990's.

All of the 570 KLIF RP machines had working lights on the "Worlds First Trimulcast, AM-Internet-TV" Sunday nite computer show originating from the 570 studios in Reverschon Plaza.

Yup, RP model. I boughtit used on E-bay several years ago. A previous owner removed the little "power" light that's located between the STOP and START buttons. The recording amp is bad in one channel. I'm having to use a Broadcast Electronics machine to make recordings.

Robert: Congrats on the success of Legendary 80's! I continue to be more impressed every time I tune in. The music is just GREAT; last time I had it on, Dennis DeYoung's Desert Moon was on. A fantastic lost song from the Fall of 1984 and giant hit on NY radio. Beyond the music programming, the technical set up of the automation system is unbelievable... that thing call pull off segs beyond belief, regardless of how the songs ends. Cold endings are tight, cold-fades are tighter. I've never heard a blown transition, ever on L-80's! And the addition of the sweepers is much enjoyed.

Brain: We must prepare for tomorrow night.
Pinky: Why? What are we going to do tomorrow night?
Brain:The same thing we do every night, Pinky - try to take over the world!
Chorus: They're Pinky, They're Pinky and the Brain Brain Brain Brain Brain!

Onward and upward... Will Legendary 80's take over the world?

Thanks guys for listening and for the feedback! 8)

Reelin in the Hits official review for Saturday, April 6th, 2013:

Vancouver's LG-73 is the sole source and Official Radio Station of RITH: www.LG73.ca

Bass-master-Robert starts the show with an unexpected track:

Saturday in the Park -Chicago with an unusual & interesting arrangement (not the K*LUV version)

S.A.T.U.R.D.A.Y.Night -Bay City Rollers was #2

New for 2013, Billy Joel's UPTON GIRL debuted (formerly Uptown Girl), now properly re-branded in honor of Kate Upton.. because Upton makes the old song like Christie who?
{I imagines the carpeting matches the drapes here, meeting your demanding requirements, Robert}

Don't You Want Me -Human League and Word Up -Cameo Up follow...

This was cool: Every Day of the Week by Jade, which rattles off names off days of the week just like Saturday Love by Cherrelle (last time I heard that was on 100.3 JAMZ in 1989)

S.O.S. - apparently there was ONE Cathy Dennis song that Y-95 didn't play (I was surprised) this from the 90210 College Years soundtrack

OMD: So In Love and Huey: Power of Love, both circa 1985 vintage music

Go Your Own Way -by the MAC (Fleetwood Mac) -invoked images of Forrest Gump running across the country! Had to check the lyrics to be sure, but they really do say "Packing up,...
Shacking up's all you wanna do" (I always thought so)

(Every Time I Turn Around) Back in Love -L.T.D. ... does LTD come in brown and in a Brougham? In 1976 that was my favorite year for the Brown, Brougham LTD

Here's one I didn't know: I'd Die Without You -P.M. Dawn

Then there was the backwards song challenge - which went unsolved: I Know I'm Losing You - also by Uptown {the word Uptown should be formally changed for all time)

Lights Out - Wolf & Two Occasions -The Deele

The Deele was just a warm up for the 1988 block...

All I Want -Frog the Wet Gear & All the Love in the World -Outfield

WoW---> Livin it Up Friday Night -Bell and James (this was an unexpected aural treat)

Then 2 from '88: Wish I Had a Girl -Henry Lee Summer & Waiting for a Star to Fall -Boy Meets Girl (from the album REEL LIFE on Reelin' in the Hitz)

Lotta Love -Nicolette Larson; only the 45 edit / no long version (reminds me of Nicorette the gum)

The circa 1984 vintage Michael Jackson PEPSI GENERATION pepsi commercial (the hair singe edit)

Hip to be Square -Huey (better than Stuck With You, which I thought was so lame and a huge stiff from the first time I put it on a turntable)

Like a Prayer -Madonna (1989)

Then the NKOTB double shot:

1st: Step by Step -technically the biggest of the New Kid hits (Donnie sings "Step Two")

2nd: This One's for the Children -which I mentioned sounded like a rip off of We Are The World in the LG-73 Chat Room

to which Robert "the Legend" Bass played "We Are The World" -the full version, breaking a major rule of engagement by playing a song longer than 6:00 minutes.

You took it, and broke a major rule of engagement.

Then you broke another one with that circus stunt fly-by.

Mr. "Legend" Bass: The Top Gun rules of engagement exist for your safety and for that of your team.

They're not flexible, nor am l. Obey them or you're history. Is that clear?.

(Mr. Bass in reply) Yes, sir!

LOL!!! I really enjoy your show recaps! :)

Thanks for taking the time to write them up! 8)

RE: Chicago and Larson - from TM GoldDisc #214 and #216 respectivly. I understand KLUV uses TM's library as well, but I've never made it a point to compare the versions they use.

I use TM's library as much as possible. Some exceptions apply... (i.e. both NKOTB songs were sourced from cassette singles and the Uptown song was from a 45 RPM. Jade and Cathy Dennis were both from the same 90210 CD!)

I wasn't aware Joel's song was rebranded!

P.M. Dawn's song was from the motion picture "Boomerang" (starring Eddie Murphey & Robin Givens)

Rules??? We don't need no stinkin' rules! If I wanna play a 6:00+ minute song, then by golly I'm gonna play it! That reminds me, I need to order the 8 1/2 minute version of McLean's American Pie from TM. ;)

What are the differences in Saturday in the Park?

Saturday in the Park sounded quite differently arranged, with an added emphasis, instruments very prominent and very much stand out-ish during non-vocal periods in a way that I'm not familiar with from FM or anywhere else.

Also, the background vocals on Outfield's "All The Love In The World" seemed much more prominent and emphasized as compared to lead vocals at many different points.

My first thought is there is a problem with the 'difference information'; since this is not MPX encoded stereo, that can't be the right answer.

It could be the way that TMCI Golddisc(s) were mastered. Perhaps they are not perfectly in phase. I don't believe that TMCI provided phase correction/compensation, only Sonic Solutions or other single ended noise reduction.

Finally, there is the fact of LG-73's "OPTIMA Gerd-O-Phonic Stereo" (sp?), the stations proprietary audio processing, combined with the Mesquite, Texas based Breakaway AGC pre-processing.

Then there's all the DSP efx resident in the my computer... but today, without a reboot, my gold old standard Rhapsody still sounds normal on even the most complex of program material.

JRZ

The private source feed that I send to LG's HQ is NOT run through Breakaway before it is sent. Phil requires unprocessed audio from all show hosts, so that's exactly what I send him. Having said that, I am thinking of doing an encore presentation of my shows on my Legendary80s station. If this becomes a reality, it will go through Breakaway.
