SHAMROCK'S NEW RENO CLUSTER

They are stunting right now with Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits. Interesting choice since I doubt MJ fans and Glenn Beck fans run in the same circles. :D

I must be one of the few.

I don't care for the "more conversation, less confrontation" positioning. Mike Hukabee says it everyday and when he does I usually punch out. There is something semi-offensive about it even if the intention is the opposite. I listen to a lot of talk radio and mostly hear conversation and rarely hear confrontation unless someone's definition of confrontation is a political point of view they disagree with.

The lineup on the station is fine but if they use the nicety nice talk of the press release for their imaging it would be a tune out for many. I don't believe it would attract any non-talk listeners to the format. If someone has the mindset that "both sides are right, can't we just all get along" they aren't going to listen to talk radio no matter what.

So, KNEZ, FM107.3 has begun regular programming. Alotta far right wing stuff, including Glenn Beck from 6 to 9 in morning drive. News Director is Sean Patrick, a local who's done a lot of sports play-by-play in Reno. I heard overnight newsbreaks done by Veronica Carter this morning. Very trong signal in Reno. This station may give the other news-talkers in the market a run for their money, including KFFT-FM 99.1..along with AM's KKOH, KJFK and KBZZ. What does this say about the Reno audience's perceived intelligence or literary level? What does it say about the programming "genius" of these station's owners? The "Biggest Little City" is still a small city. Oh, yes; and then there's also the local university-run NPR station which also sports a news department. Still, the new K-News may turn some heads..and radio dials in Reno. We'll see how much local radio news improves with the new competition.
