Signs that a jock is a burnout

I was informed by more than one or two people that you had an issue with everyone Matt. No one liked you because you had a negative attitude, arrogant and a know it all that talked down to everyone. "burnt" one too many they say.

So both of the people you know huh? What market are they working in? I am doing pretty well hanging out in Market #3.....
Where do you work reelbill?

People who get on here and talk about others need to get a life. If you don't like your job, quit so the owner doens't have to fire you and save everyone the trouble.

I work for myself, I travel and listen to allot of radio in the car, I also have family in the radio business. Matt has flamed a few in my area on this board for no good reason. True sign of burnout I'd say. You two sound related.

Wow burn out is not just in radio. I'm in a non radio job and sounds like most of the people I work with. Plus the lack of respect and making ya feel like your not a professional at what you do. & yes we can be replaced with a call to the temp agency. Now if we can all win the lotto then we wouldn't have to work with numbskulls and I'm still wondering how some of them get jobs i management.

Typically those that do what's best for the company and their fellow employees don't get disrespected. Maybe jocks should think a little more about the product and not their egos.

Bull. They are either asked to do more & are walked on & used or they are "not fired" just "not picked up" by the new cheapskates. Nobody likes a suck**s...and the word "disrespect" is waaayyy overused these days ::).
Let sales cut their own spot for no talent fee.
Sign that a jock is burned out:
Jocks that are canned by pencil pusher exec types get a kick out of going to a payphone & calling up the transmitter & turning the plate current down every time a high dollar remore break comes on, then turn it back to normal when spot block is over, every break, then calls the place of business to ask what the sale was about because every time the guy goes on to talk the station goes dead. Meanwhile the intern board op-ing the remote for no pay is clueless. :D

...spends his whole day surfing that lame "Reel Radio" site...

...starts evey other sentence with, "Now I remember before Telecom '96, when..."

...has at least six phony handles to use for flaming on All Access...

...not that I would know, mind you... ;D

Radioindy, you think anyone is on the air without those "idiotic listeners"? You bet it is the listeners who are responsible for the paycheck. Advertisers are the ones providing the money, but without the listeners driving the ratings, that money goes to someone else.

You're going to listen to a country station even if you don't like country because you like the dj?

You listen to Alternative Rock even though you don't like it, because you like the dj?

You listen to Classic Rock, even though you don't like Lynyrd Skynyrd because you want to hear washed up djs crack the mic for 90 seconds every third song?

People choose radio stations based on the format and the selection of songs in that format. You can't focus your entire marketing/format on the handful of daily callers (unless you want to fail - which happens when you let listeners program your format - rookie ownership mistake.)

Every station in Indy that has failed, including the recently failed classic rock station, has failed because the owner/gm has chosen the wrong music.

Other than a Bob & Tom or a Howard Stern situation, MUSIC FORMAT is the reason people choose a station. If you think it's because of the djs you are still living in the 60s - which is why your station is failing.

perhaps if the dj`s were allowed to be more creative ,without doing a philibuster like stern or bob and tom, between music they could be a major reason people listen and radio would be better and more interesting.

But that would go against all consultanting. c'mon, you think you know more than the paid consultants? That's why radio is in the great state it's in now! You jocks think you know everything.

That is a great point flashback - creativity is not allowed any longer - and it is all because of what Radioindy says - consultants and wall streeters - people in charge who know nothing about the business.

That doesn't change my argument about listeners. Continue to treat them like crap (regardless of format) you won't be around long.

I am just a listener.I never worked in radio but I know this.tjhe kind of things consultnts bring to radio are ruining what made radio great.it is a good thing wls radio didn`t have consultents keeping guys like larry lujack in line.

Excellent point Flashpoint. I wonder why people on here don't think listeners would take the time to post?

tmac1960 why would owners of stations in Northern Michigan take the time to post here?

Probably the same reason I post on the Chicago boards, I grew up near there and keep up with what goes on in that market as a hobby, just like I do here.

Doing way too much to trey to explain yourself, Mr. Manager Man.

Sign that a jock is burned out:
The office & sales hog troughers eat up all the traded out Olive Garden or Panera Bread & leave the jocks nothing but scraps, sauce & maybe a couple rolls, even after the jocks cut the spot & did the testimonial. The burned out jock takes the leftover sauces, butter, condiments, etc. & opens them all in station kitchen area trash can, sets it outside in the heat a while to fester & get flies, then puts it back in the kitchen area KNOWING it will sit there stinking the place up all week getting worse every day(especially the juice from leftover fruit femnants) because all office & sales are too lazy to get up & investigate the smell until the cleaners come in on the weekend.

You might be burned out if your boss has no clue how to manage, and just continues to re-arrange the deck chairs on the Titanic hoping for a different outcome. :D

They said Captain Smith was the best captain on the ocean waves. Just like your boss says he's
the best captain on the air waves. Better jump ship. The Titanic is going down.

I wasn't talking about my boss. We're all happy! It's you that needs to be scared.

A quote right off Bob & Tom. I understand why you might be burned out by the office music on your station.

Thanks for being a loyal listener of WFBQ!

Why does everyone want to attack an independant owner that is only trying to give a great format to a music-starved town that has been listening to the above crap for years? Could it be jealousy?

Wait until you see the turnaround that's coming. You'll be begging for a job at a real station. ;D

I'm sorry! Thought you were a deck hand. Didn't know I was talking to the captain. Well, the
last lifeboat hasn't left yet. Women and children first!

Hello Tired OLD JOCKS:

Can't say I won't drop in if I make it back to the corn belt just for a laugh!

Drop by anytime. And we don't hold it against you that you weren't good enough for the indy market. Not everyone's cut out to be a jock in a metro market. Best of luck in Evansville.
