Smerconish and Giordano on 1210 AM: Thoughts

This has REALLY been evident over the past several months; particularly since they retooled the format of the morning show to remove news and other typical elements. At this point, he's become very annoying and is pretty much a tune out - which contrasts with my opinion of him a year ago when I tended to listen every day. He now comes off as very egotistical and somewhat obnoxious.
I hate to say this but 1210 needs to let him go and get someone else to do morning drive. Do you agree with that?

I do not see that happening because Smerconish is their "signature" personality and the show is doing well, apparently. CBS Radio considers him to be the star of their station and they are probably more interested in keeping him happy than vice versa - as long as the numbers are good. And, he is far too smart to say anything that will get him fired. So Smerco will be there until such time as a better gig arises. And my guess would be that such a gig would probably be somewhere like MSNBC - as opposed to radio in another city.

Ratings may be good, but I still find his show too self-serving and egotistical for my personal tastes. He is making Rush sound humble. ::)

Julius,

Don’t be a complete nudnik, and I know that may be hard for or you. Smerconish uniquely captures the genuine essence of local content radio, with an innate local perspective, from a local boy at that, with a quality communicative capacity. Anyone can hear that just listening to him in first 30 seconds. If you don’t like local hometown broadcast efforts, go back to the 950 satellite feed of regurgitated sports nonsense, and drivel over that.

I'll listen to both when something interests me and when the topic doesn't I switch to 104.5 most times.

That said, the occasional references and hosting from Joey Vento gets a little annoying, but I can't really identify with Joey Vento or frankly care about the causes he chooses to fight.

The education hour on Saturdays sounds more like an infomercial for that woman in New Hope, too. But that doesn't seem out of sorts for 1210 on the weekends. Bring on Dr. Vagnini and the Res-Q show and drop that piece of chocolate!

Because some diehards who don't represent the mainstream find him a but much to stomach?

No. That is not a reason to let him go.

If and when the ratings show marked declines or he does something problematic for CBS's reputation, then it would be logical to change directions.

I really don't like Michael Smerconish and Dom Giordano on 1210 AM because of the way they talk to the callers on the air and other reasons. When those 2 guys are on, my radios are not on WPHT. This is the reason why 1210 AM is and will not be good as the old WCAU-AM and WWDB-FM was in terms of some of their talent. What do you guys think of Smerconish and Giordano?

Giordano could use some meat in his diet.

Smirconish is not interested in the truth, he is interested in brown nosing the powerful and taking safe stands. While I think Mumia is guilty, being anti-Mumia in Philadelphia is not exactly sticking one's neck out.

I have seen Smirconish on MSNBC and heard him on WPHT. He does not challenge anyone of stature. He is a complete ki$$ a$$.

To reference "Family Guy," Smirconish is a "big fat phony!"

Philadelphia deserves better than him.

He has definitely been coming off that way lately. His recent political stances have seemed to reflect that.

And, I'd like to point out his 'big prediction' on MSNBC about Obama winning the PA primary by a surprising margin. WRONG! And it wasn't even close. Anyone who knows what he's doing would not have made such a prediction - not about PA. But, it sure did ingratiate him to certain players in New York. So, yeah, you make a legitimate point.

I don't mind a "maverick" guy who does not tow the party line. In fact, I prefer that and it's one reason why I am no fan of Sean Hannity's. Not knowing what will be said actually makes Michael Savage fun to listen to now and then. There are days when he really rails on Bush and McCain....just as much as on Democrats. His angry act gets old sometimes, but that is a different topic.

All that being said, Smerconish's recent opinions on things come off as transparent. Either he was lying before about his beliefs - or he's "adjusting" them now to fit the new media template.

Typical lawyer, goes whichever way the wind is blowing.

It's really amazing!!!!! I've been saying this about Smerconish for years. He plays it safe and goes which ever way the win blows so as not to ruffle any feathers. All he is doing is trying to ride the fence. After all, there will always be some political group waiting to go on the attack. And if he does voice an opinion that isn't popular, now you have the pain in the ass public that will call his advertisers. Then the advertisers in turn, call the station and it goes on and on. So if you play it safe, you are criticised. If you are controversial, criticised.People are just a royal pain in the ass.And the people that try to get you pulled from the air, they are the same morons that wave the flag and proclaim how free we are. Yeah, as long as you agree with them.
