So Did anybody give Danny Bonaduce a listen?

Just to get back on topic. Now that the show has been in place for a well over a week. (I know 'well over a week,' is a blip.)

Who is listening? What are you thinking. I'll stick to the golden rule here and leave it at, I've listened for a total of about 1 hour.

And please if you're a Danny Super fan or some out of towner, we get it. He's been around for years, there were shows in the mid-west that were getting ok ratings. Or whatever else you want to chime in with about how Danny is a success and a great guy and blah blah blah. Understood.

Just want actual thoughts on this show here and NOW in Philadelphia, PA!

We think Bonaduce must be kept on the air for two years before the full impact of his ratings and star power will become evident. Only after two full years will all be known.

Sincerely,

Preston and Steve

his show is garbage. WYSP management should be ashamed of what they did to those heritage call letters. the programming department is totally asleep at the wheel with this hybrid 70's 80's 90's junk. 6 months till it flips any takers?

Agreed 110%, They are a joke. Those call letters used to be the home of the #1 Rock station and they used to have the best cutting edge hard rock and metal. Hopefully they'll realize their historic potential to actually rock. I give it 6 months. I think CBS overall is to blame, look at the sorry excuse for a "rock" station in NYC, lame-rock.

I totally disagree their format is going to as Bloom stated "rip the heart of WMMR" as a person who on average tunes in the radio one to two hours a day I find the dial locked in to YSP more than ever, currently their cume is the highest of all three rock stations.

They must be doing something right I have noticed WMMR has added more "grew up" tunes to their library.

But their share is way lower. Which leads me to believe that the cume is based very heavily on certain specialty programming they air on Sunday afternoons, which does not seem to translate to any TSL on any other day.

It's great to read the words of wisdom from so many geniuses. Most of you have no idea what you're talking about. Why don't you add your current job title to your posts? You're the same fools who predicted YSP would flip formats in 6 months and that some guy named Howard would be run out of town back in 86. If you don't understand why Danny is already a hit, you're either jealous or foolish.

Yeah, he's a "hit" -- to the face and stomach first thing in the morning. People regularly crank calling him and he actually airs it when he gets burned, because the guy is clueless, crazy and imbalanced. Example: today, while yet another philly police officer is being mourned by the city, Danny is busy walking about "WYSP, the station that knows its hookers" and other such irrelevant nonsense.

and before you try the old trick of "well, you're listening, aren't you?", there's a difference between a pseudo-insider like myself and the general populace, who would not put up with his roid-rage radio schtick just to see how bad a show can actually get.

Anybody notice the lack of local advertisers on his show? More money out, less money in. Great job, CBS.

I listened to one break today. Very milquetoast solicit for callers on a topic - what can you live without in today's down economy. Lame examples like men's room attendants. Very lame.

When he went to commercial, I turned to DeBella. It's almost the same guy with the same voice, only slightly more animated.

i have been in advertising sales in Philadelphia for 3 years including radio and the cume of WYSP may be high right now but that is no indication of TSL which is the important factor. People tuning in and out is common with programming changes. All Philadelphia stations are suffering from a soft national advertising market leaving local sales to fill in those gaps. WYSP has no local presence and is suffering from another poorly executed billboard branding campaign. Danny has no marketing support and his success or failure may be purely based on exposure. I ask people all the time what they think of his show and people rarely are omniscient to the fact that hes on the radio at all. Tough to build an audience that way.

No exposure for a new morning show is a true blunder at any level, in any market. If I were Bonaduce, and was not benifitting from the efforts of management to publicize my arrival, I would sleep very little and take it to the streets.

-Danny "Partridge" can walk into any morning or noon TV show anywhere in this country and get camera time.
-At 5pm every weekday stand in front of a big factory or office building and shake hands and kiss the girls.
-Never where anything but WYSP logowear.
-Make sure my producer gets the email address of everyone that calls the show and send them a personal note before night fall.
-Find a charity that needs a boost and hit a homerun.
-Spend some of my own money to put together an army of "Danny's Dolls" to wear sandwich boards advertising the new show to stand on busy corners in all the hot zips during drive times.
-Deliver pumpkin pies to firehouses and police stations throughout the metro for Thanksgiving.
-Ask members of the Partridge Family to offer interviews to other key morning shows in the market when they can blurt out "Danny's on WYSP."

Taking it to the streets is hard work, but doesn't have to cost much at all.

So just to wrap this post up. Nobody in Philly seems to care and for some reason Danny has a lot of out of town radiophiles RaRa'ing for him.

In my opinion the guy is an out of touch cliche, and narcissist that has no perception of the real world. And if you told him that, he'd think it was cool people thought that about him.

He works in radio, because that's all he can do. And for him to slum in a medium I truly love is a slap in the face.

agreed. only a few weeks and the bloom is already off the rose. time to yank the crank head and return to what works.

Bonaduce's the real deal - entertaining, a train wreck in motion, and a real mensch. If he could lose being a one-upper, he could be the next Stern.

i don't know about the next stern, but the topper mentality is making it tough to listen to. i figure in several months the "hey, here is another crazy thing i did in the past" will start to fade.

Bull are you in Philly? I doubt it. But even if you are. I realize that ANY show on the radio or TV for that matter is going to get a certain amount of P1s. You can say whatever you want about Bonaduce, but the fact of the matter is... Philly is going to be just another footnote on his resume. And when he leaves about ten guys from Philly are going to hit the NEXT city's radio board and talk about how awesome he is.

You don't go to the next level with a 2 person staff and 7-8 songs an hour. If CBS didn't hire him, they could of got Kato Kaelin (I'm not looking up his spelling.) with the same results.

No need to, you spelled it correct!

You oughta call up and ask him about the time he flooded a club's bathroom by breaking a sink. He was engaged in...something.

We already know the story. He was only trying to get the soap out of the dispenser. Anyone who has experienced a public restroom with a malfuntioning soap dispenser would a few break bathroom fixtures too! WEEEEELLLL Maybe some of us :p.
But seriously, I think he sounds to me like a guy who's starting to settle-in. Go ahead and call him up, I'd bet he would love to hear your side.
