Yes, it worked for the old 'KTU...in the 70s. Unfortunately, three decades have passed since then.
And you say "two rock stations" as if that's some sort of outlandish number. By that logic, aren't TWO AC stations enough? Two hip-hop stations? Two R&B stations? Two all-news stations? Two sports stations?

I've left my previous place of employment for the last 13 years and am currently looking for a new gig. The downturn in the economy forced some crazy things to happen there. And even though I brought them most of their hits, I wasn't immune. And so it goes...
We now return you to your previous thread, already in progress.

I love you, you know that! But I have to say this regarding disco.
Frist off, with "The Strobe" returning to Sirius XM (was announced yesterday!) classic dance fans do have their outlet again! And that's good. However, regarding a disco station again in New York, I really don't think this time around people would totally warm to it.
It's not that the music isn't good. I just think with all that happened regarding 'KTU and Mix 102.7 at the time, disco/classic dance was "beat up" all over the radio......meaning overplayed and oversaturated. I mean, how many times can one listen to "Staying Alive" and "I Will Survive"? That's what 'KTU did then and now they have realized it since that station has shifted more towards "safe" currents and older material not necessarily disco related.
With Joe Causi on 'CBS, at least disco has a home somewhere along with a respected personality behind it!![]()

Tony Santiago said:If 'KTU went back to 92.3, they'd better sound like Pulse 87 if they want any chance of trying to make something happen again. Otherwise, they would have their audience and people would listen but nothing dramatic would happen out of it.

I'm NOT so sure...i mean, do we REALLY know what kind of audience 'KTU would get if it went back to its "70's home", PARTICULARLY if it played classic dance with a touch of 90's thrown in?? besides which, with the recent announcement that The Strobe is RETURNING to Sirius, do you not think that there IS as a matter of fact an AUDIENCE for this kind of dance music, PARTICULARLY in rhythmic-based New York City??

There is an audience for what 'KTU is doing now....on 103.5 and if they, hypothetically, move it to 92.3 that same audience will be there. But no difference. No question on that.
But if they ('KTU) want to HYPE themselves on the 92.3 dial, it's not as if the current dance crowd that was abandoned after the 'KTU flip of '06 will start running over there. As bad as the Pulse 87 signal may be, Pulse is catering to those needs for the current based dance fan, for the most part. IF CC wanted to do something if they landed 92.3 and create a buzz, they would have to not only put back current dance music, but run it the way Pulse 87 is doing. That crowd won't deal with a new Freemasons track if they know that they will get Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You", and Gwen Stefani's "It's My Life" right after.
That's what I mean. 'KTU will keep the audience that they already have, with the playlist they're running and nothing would change if a 92.3 flip was imminent. The only difference would be that the 92.3 frequency would be stronger. 103.5 traditionally has been the "weaker" signal....though not weak like Pulse.
andreajesus said:ok, i'm reading this and this is what i'm not getting... ??? why are even talking about signal frequencies here? this is a much bigger issue than who's sharing whose antennas or whatever...to me, it's a much BIGGER issue - and this is (or SHOULD be) the issue - we got a station with HISTORICAL call letters on 103.5 sounding like a slightly more uptempo version of Z100 (Pussycat Dolls on 103.5? Cmon....); by the same pace, we got a station on a HISTORICAL frequency (at least, to dance music fans, it was historical 30 years ago....) which is not really making the big bucks, baby for its parent company right now...and we're talking about signal frequencies and antenna sharing? listen, if i had the bucks and was running things, i would go ahead and program that station with the HISTORICAL frequency into a SERIOUS dance music thing...besides which, 103.5 could use some competition... 8)
