So who/what is going to replace Burbank? Does anyone know yet?

Tracy Jones?!!!! what is WLW thinking?

The show isn't bad and is getting better as the topics are focused more on topics and less on the hosts getting the gig. Once they start booking guests things will move much more smoothly. Today they had a good interveiw with Sam Donaldson, which was recycled in the 5 oclock hour.

On other subjects, what time is Earl Pitts airing on 700?

Possibly its just me, but I think Fingers sounds too FM for an afternoon AM drive-time program.

I keep expecting to hear some AC/DC come onto the radio, that is, after he stops laughing at whatever he is saying.

I like Jones, but he really would fit much better into a sports themed show.

Either the table has been turned completely around and now they are trying to turn WLW into WEBN, or this match-up is just a temporary thing until a real host can be found.

Only one with no concept of what the audience wants would say something as ridiculous as "sounds too FM for AM". Real people listening don't care or have a concept of what sounds FM or what sounds AM. All that matters is that they are informed and entertained. Today's show was both.

Tuned into The Big One around 4:15 this afternoon...Where once not so many weeks ago a bunch of guys were having a ball doing "Sports Or Consequences", today it was a host trying his darndest to sound interested while some guy prattled on about the mortgage crisis. Why? Why?

I dunno...tried to give it a listen and a fair chance Monday, but a half hour of Eddie, Tracy and Marty Brennaman talking about Marty's daughter's wedding just didn't hold much interest. Maybe they should have found a new "ringmaster" and let Duke and the rest of Burbank's cast of writers and characters continue on, with Burbank maybe contributing some characther voices still (note he's on a commercial for a cruise this fall).

Best afternoon choice I can hear is John corby on WTVN in Columbus.

We should ask midwestxfiles what afternoon show is the Train Wreck now?

He's busy. Re-upping his contract with Satan.

Too bad he didn't have enough notice to think this through. I suppose he heard about Gary's retirement at 2:59 on December 21st.

Which is cheaper, having a staff of 10 or a show of two? This is corporate radio. Also, Burbank retired, I doubt he'd want to continue to do regular work outside of Earl Pitts.

Also in regards to Eddie & Tracy, they are not Burbank, no one would be, it was basically an end to an era. The show is getting better, and days that Eddie takes more control are more entertaining than when Tracy seems to dominate the discussion. It is definitely different, and before the announcement of Gary's retirement, many on this board were complaining about how dull, boring, old, etc his show was.

Same thing with the Angry Guys on 96 Rock...complaints here and on the Cincinnati.com blog are two fold, there are complaints that they have to play a song or two an hour and aren't 100% sports talk and that it doesn't fit the format. Yet the same people will usually complain that radio is so cookie cutter that no creativity is generated any more. The sports/rock hybrid works great and is definitely different and better than just a jukebox that plays rock like WEBN has become. The Angry Guys were never 100% sports talk, even when on Homer. Also with the lighter spot load I would almost bet they spend more time talking sports now than they did when they were on Homer, even with the songs and pop culture/sex talk with Karen.

Who's ready to take bets that Eddie gets the axe at the end of this year in the '08 version of the CC Reaper? And Wildman with him. They've taken Bangert away from the Dawn Patrol and spread him across the newsroom.

It's one bolt at a time.

I'm thinking this show is a spoof while they are looking for a real host and/or show format. There are just too many reasons why this arrangement wouldn't work.

One, or maybe both hosts, will somehow be eliminated; probably after one of them performs some staged mental crack-up or maybe says something just too controversial for them to stay on the air.

I will start listening when the "Angries" start having sex talk with Karrie.
Now THAT would be worth hanging around for. Other than that, I don't know if anything could get me to adjust my otherwise habitual morning radio routine. Out.

He's pretty good and the guys on the new WIBC-FM aren't bad.

How long will the spoof last? Until Eddie gets back? I was actually really looking forward to hearing Eddie take over the show, the Jones addition was stupid and makes it an unlistenable wreck, even if it is a gimmick.

I prefered listening to Tracy by himself yesterday, at least I was cringing at a guy I already don't like without feeling sorry for Eddie..who I do like. Still didn't listen long. Figured out in about three minutes that he was basing his topic on a fake web site.

AND...how long do they need to find a real host and/or show format? They've already had a year..

The sad truth is that his salary probably paints a nice, fluorescent target on his back that only corporate can see. If the brain trust in Kenwood makes another crappy deal like the one with the Reds, they're gonna need to find money somewhere. Eddie's waited a long time for this gig, so I hope they don't look into his wallet to find it.

You can't replace a guy like Gary Burbank. The guy was the best in the biz,IMO.

Now if they were to bring Mojo Nixon back from San Diego to do that slot, that could get interesting. Mojo would still be hungover and mean at that time of day.
