Something Is Happening At 103.9 WKPE-FM

Tonight while listening to a Walkman at work (post office) I had WBOQ 104.9 on (it does come in in
certain parts of my building like in the lunchroom) and I could also hear some bleedover from
WOCN 104.7 (gave ID)! Not bad, maybe the warm weather bringing that station in up from the Cape.

Nassau isn't selling WKPE. They are leasing the air to WEEI-AM 850 Boston. Look for Sportsradio WEEI Network to premier. Refer to my earlier posting and their press release.
Too bad Pixy will be gone. I had thought perhaps one of the Frank FM channels would pick up Pixy. Maybe still will?

Once again, you have the 2 stations confused. We're not Talking about Pixy 103, which is at 102.9 on the dial, and has been rock for 20 years. This thread is talking about 103.9 WKPE, which swapped with 104.7 back in April. 103.9 was formerly home to Ocean 104.

This thread is not about Pixy!

well, american pie, don't talk about me when I',m gone, and shes gone country, if it were me programming THIS STUNT, I would use a cut from blues brothers, 'WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY HERE?" "OH, WE GOT BOTH KINDS, COUNTRY AND WESTERN" if that is the way they are going

I'm new to this....but the strongest statement that they've made so far is this country thing....If I were a betting man, they will start this thing off tomorrow with country....it's missing from the market and was tried several times, albeit breifly.

Yes sometimes during stunting they'll give clues about the format or new "nickname" whether or not it's known in
advance.

WKOX and WXKS (AM) teased the start of Air America with songs like "Revolution" and "Rockin' In a
Free World" and bits of Franken reading from "Lying Liars"

The Shark on the NH coast would have the Jaws theme and clips from the movie...

I've been saying for the past 2-3 years that someone should flip to country on the Cape. I know it failed as "Thunder 102" on what is now "Cool 102" back in the mid-90s, but the country music landscape has changed dramatically over the past decade.

All you have to do is look at the success of WCTK. There's no reason for a country station to not succeed on the Cod, as long as it's programmed right.

Well everyone, it's semi-official now that our beloved 103.9, what was the Cape's greatest radio station

Is going Country

They've now added a new song to the rotation (along with American Pie and that Jazz song)... a country song that talks about "He's Gone Country, back to his roots." etc etc

or something like that. I havent listened to the whole thing but I listened to that one line and that was it for me, I think its safe to say they really are going country. This is a real shame, Im such a huge fan of Classic Rock 103.9, it was all I ever listened to. Pixy just doesnt cut it for me, theres too much mixture of like 80s and 90s hard rock/grunge that it's just no good. This is very disappointing and depressing for Cape Cod. No longer do we have a dedicated station for true classic rock.

After Sandab bought 104.7 from Charles River Broadcasting and they switched to 103.9, everythign went down hill. Of course, Sandab basically spit in WKPE's face and took away their amazing 50,000 watt amplifier which I had the pleasure of seeing a few times.

What a disgrace. Country? ugh.

I want my Classic Rock n Roll back!

Well, it all depends on what Sandab considers to be the best business move. It could well be that they've determined that country is the best fit for the 103.9 signal. Then again, they are still stunting so who knows?

If there is such a hole for classic rock in the market, someone else will surely fill it - perhaps with an even better signal.

Honestly, at this point...I really don't think they're stunting anymore. It's not like were dealing with some huge media company like Viacom, this is just a Cape Cod radio company...They're not gonna bother to mess with peoples heads. They've put a song in the rotation about going to country so I think its safe to say that they're going to country.

It's just disappointing is all.

And if Pixy does indeed go sports radio like these rumors are saying, that means no rock for the cape, so perhaps some diehard fans(like myself) and some people with some money, or grants, will open up a new station. Mind you its expensive as hell to get a license with the FCC and a frequency but, its certainly doable. Hell, maybe we could somehow get 103.9's old library of music so we wouldn't have to start from scratch. I just dont think Pixy is an alternative to true classic rock. The heavy metal grunge crap that pixy plays is awful.

>>"He's Gone Country, back to his roots."

Alan Jackson. Sometimes used as the first song when a country station debuts. (I do like country but there
should still be a place for rock)

The song is a tongue in cheek poke at various people who decide to "go country", like the female
singer in Vegas who "only ages" and decides to put on them boots and go country. The old folk singer
who sees the folk scene is dead but why not try country--after all, that stuff "don't sound much
different than Dylan". And besides, those yokels aren't "as backward as they used to be", eh?
(Just be careful what you say on stage...look what happened to the Dixie Chicks :) )

103.9 WKPE-FM

They should make the station exclusive to the Mid-Cape since it only reaches that area, calling it for example, the Mid Cape's Country or the Mid-Cape's oldies station. Dunes 102 (102.3) only reaches the outer cape from Provincetown to Orleans. It is non existant in the Mid-Cape area (Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis). A good idea would be to create a new oldies station for the Mid-Cape or to simulcast the satellite Oldies Radio on Dunes 102. Maybe call it Dunes 102.3 and 103.9? If they went country, I would not understand why, because 98.1 is heard well in the Mid-Cape area. Oldies fans, must deal with the fair signal of Oldies 103.3 in the Mid-Cape area. Ironically, Oldies 103.3 can be heard clearly in the outer Cape, where Dunes 102 is.

Yeah well, my take on it is..

Leave it the way it was!

There was nothing wrong with the Classic Rock format. It had a large fanbase, and was s great alternative to Pixy. It was even more loved when it had the 50,000 watt amp and could reach most of the cape, although even now with the 5,100 amp it still had a dedicated base of fans in the mid-cape area. I live in South Yarmouth. I'm really truly going to miss my Classic Rock every morning when I wake up, while Im driving in the car, while im doing things around the house :'(

soooooooooooo........where are all you "they're definitely going country" posters now that KPE has starting looping Amy Winehouse's "Rehab"??

LOL.....just admit it, you guys have no idea what they're gonna do............that's why its called STUNTING.......to throw folks like you OFF THE SCENT!

Maybe it'll "play it all"... a variety hits type of thing. It would explain the jukebox on the website...

FRANK-FM is already "playing it all" on the Cape.

The only thing that comes to mind is *if* PIXY moves to 93.5 & 101.1 when 102.9 becomes sports, then I can see 103.9 wanting to fill the "Variety Hits" void left when or if FRANK leaves the building.

Nassau has a pretty good thing going with the FRANK-FM simulcast on the Cape. I'm sure that Sandab would want grab that format void if PIXY moves to 93.5 & 101.1..

Yeah, I take back what I said about the whole country thing now that theyre playing this weird Rehab song. The song is terrible first of all, and second of all what relevance or clue does it give us to what the station is becoming?

JAY, ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO GIVE YOU A CLUE TO WHAT'S COMING NEXT - IT'S A STUNT!!!!

oh my god, forget I ever said a thing. You guys are EXHAUSTING!!!!

btw - Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" is an excellent song, as is her album. You just dont get it. And that's okay.
