Something Is Happening At 103.9 WKPE-FM

JAY, ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO GIVE YOU A CLUE TO WHAT'S COMING NEXT - IT'S A STUNT!!!!

oh my god, forget I ever said a thing. You guys are EXHAUSTING!!!!

btw - Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" is an excellent song, as is her album. You just dont get it. And that's okay.

I first heard that song playing on London's Capital Radio about a year ago and I have like it ever since. Enough so that I actually downloaded it as a ringtone. Love that 60s-style "wall of sound" that is featured. Brilliant.

Besides, the chorus of "no, no, no" reminds me of our puppy! :D

Be sure and let us know where the format wheel stops.

just a few observations.... if this many people cared about WKPE originally then their ratings wouldn't have tanked book after book after book after book....if video killed the radio star, satellite killed the rock format on Cape Cod....it really doesn't matter which format they choose because they'll never bring a station from # 13 to the top 5....MoLarry most likely works for the parent company and he's insulting each and everyone of you with his sharp tones....by the way Amy Winehouse is a documented drug addict ,alcoholic and a cutter not to mention a multi-talented one hit wonder and a role model to all of America's worthless minds...DUNE RULES...

People that enjoy the "rehab" song is a perfect example of today's music culture. You have no taste. That song is flavorless, has an awful repetitive nature, and her voice is the most obnoxious thing I've ever heard. ANd stop bashing me about this stunting crap, I'm really getting sick of it.

speaking of awful repetitive nature, isn't that the nature of classic rock radio? The same songs for the past 30 years?

I like a lot of those songs but, still, it's definitely repetitive.

As if some of the big classic rock acts feature such great vocals? One could argue that a lot of what passes for "classic" rock solely satisfies undereducated, blue collar types who's tastes tend not to extend past Budweiser, Ford and Chevy.

Enough with the sour grapes, if classic rock was so fruitful for WKPE, it would still be on there right now. Clearly not enough people felt as you do, so they couldn't make a go of it. If they were wrong then someone else will jump on the format. And, you always have Frank to play those Rolling Stones, Springsteen, and Led Zeppelin hits into the ground.

Actually the Frank down there doesn't play those artists as much as the Franks up in VT/NH/ME. Sure they do play them once in a while, but Frank on the Cape is more like Mike FM, and "Plays It All."

So what's the deal with WKPE? What have they become, and did anyone get any audio of the flip and / or stunting? Something tells me that the country stuff was designed just to throw us off course. I think they may have became something entirely different, especially now that they're looping that horrid Amy Winehouse song. However, since I don't even live in the Cape Cod area, I have no idea what happened. Does anyone out there have the answer?

Added "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" to the loop yesterday afternoon. Signal barely makes it past the canal, so I won't be a regular listener anyway. Stunting has my curiosity piqued enough to listen to see what the new format will be.

NOw, along with the Grinch song, They've added Michael Jacksons "Thriller."

At this point I think it's impossible to guess what they're going to become considering they're playing the most random stuff...just stunting at its best. Its starting to get old though, I wish they'd just get on with it and setup their new format and everything.

They've also added a new little segment in between songs that goes something like:

"We don't play everything...or do we? (Baseball! Baseball!)"

Some guy from a movie clip or something is yelling Baseball Baseball in the background after the announcer says "Or do we..."

So who knows...

I got to hear and tape WKPE (for the 15 min. or so of their stunt) yesterday while down on the
Cape and yes I did hear the Grinch song but Thriller hadn't been added yet. Variety hits format
on the way? Ad in Sunday Cape Cod Times with the "jukebox" and "WKPE 103.9" etc.
Is this a case of stop paying DJs and just be another "Tom", "Dick", "Harry", or "Mike"?

At this rate, it could be anything. Hey, how long has this stunt been going on for, anyway? It seems like it's been something like 5 days since we first started talking about it. What's the holdup?

It is interesting to see the interest here on the Boston page, someone posted the same on Providence page and only one reply. Providence page is supposed to be the home for cape talk so I was told a while ago, but all the good cape action is always on the boston page. Hey Radio-Info, time to move Cape Cod to its own page, or here on the Boston page???? Hello, Hello, Bueller? Bueller?

Besides the fact that no one in Providence can hear the station the Providence market itself has gotten so lackluster that people in Providence aren't interested in talking radio in their own market much less another.

So very true. That market used to be an interesting place that featured some pretty good radio stations. No more - now it is as dull as ditchwater over there. Even Hartford is much better now (which was not true in the past).

or perhaps the folks on the Providence page dont want to be redundant with the same information coming from the boston page. why duplicate the rant, especially since we all read both pages?

there have been some pretty good cape cod streams on the providence page in the past that were not considered on the boston page for the same reason.......

boston radio is borrrrinnnngggg we need a few format changes and switches in this area thats y i installed satilite radio please boston format change please!!

Nope not yet! Theyre still pissing us off lol

Everyday it seems they add a new song to their little rotation. Like they added that terrible Wide Open Spaces Song, Thriller, Grinch, and now Dirty Water by the Standells (great tune) but theyre still dragging on with this.

Grrr

I thought the phrase was "dull as dishwater", but I looked it up on answers.com, and it says that's an adaptation of the original English phrase "ditchwater".

Boring, tedious, as in That lecture was dull as dishwater. The original simile, dull as ditchwater, dating from the 1700s, alluded to the muddy water in roadside ditches. In the first half of the 1900s, perhaps through mispronunciation, it became dishwater, the dingy, grayish water in which dirty dishes had soaked.
