Songs you hated playing on the air?

"I've Never Been to Me", by Charlene. Absolutely the worst.

I am probably the only man who loves this song. It gives me the chills (in a good way) from start to finish. I can actually remember exactly where I was when I first heard it in early 1982. I even remember the jock who played it...Jack McKay when he did mornings at KLUC/Las Vegas. Some of you in Phoenix might remember him.

It's not too late to change your mind and keep your man card out of the shredder............

(third verse, much worse than the first)

Sometimes I've been to crying for unborn children
that might have made me complete
but I, I took the sweet life
I never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet
I spent my life exploring
the subtle whoring
that costs too much to be free
hey lady I've been to paradise
but I've never been to me...

I've been to paradise but I've never been to me...

A couple songs fried me..back in the NFVG deejay days..

Oh Babe What Would You Say by Hurricane Smith
Winchester Cathedral by New Vaudeville Band
In The Summertime by Mungo Jerry
How Do You Do by Mouth and McNiel
Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary McGregor

Eeesh..I'm gonna go drop my iPad in the dog dip now..thank you

I can't think of many songs I really disliked playing. When I disliked a song, I just turned down the studio monitors and watched the VU meters until it was time to do a break or segue. ;D

Feminists were offended by these lyrics which stopped it from being a hit when it was originally released in 1977. Scott Shannon re-discovered it and made it a hit when he was in Tampa in the early 80s.

While I can understand why men would hate this song on the surface..just because the whole feel of the song is so un-manly. But these lyrics in particular shouldn't be especially offensive to men. It's about a woman who regrets she didn't raise a family instead of traveling around the world.

Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary McGregor -- GAG ME!!!!!

I like this one. If a man sung it (which it was originally intended for) it would have been boring. But a woman singing adds an interesting twist. Plus I like her voice and the arrangement of the song. It helps that I have rarely heard it on the radio since it was a hit in 1977. I did recently hear it on a stream of a Myrtle Beach easy listening station and I was pretty much in awe of it.

...just thought of another one -- John Travolta's "Let Her In." I'm damn near puking just thinking of that piece of crap...

These were boring:

Mary Hopkin - Those Were The Days

Debbie Boone - You Light Up My Life (was she Morris Albert in a skirt?)

Eagles - Hotel California

Beach Boys - Good Vibrations

...any "long" record with extensive melody-free jamming that the musicians probably enjoyed but the audience had to tolerate (I say this as an active musician in a band), Santana for example.

...most disco songs unless hacked to be very short

Okay okay..when I was on WSB-FM in Atlanta we did a Saturday night disco show..and some of the clunkers included:

Rock Your Baby by George McCrae.

(I saw the studio where that was done in Hialeah, FL..and the vision of George standing there "singing" in that dumpy place just makes me see it over and over again. Henry Stone should have been ashamed to run that place)

Disco Duck by Rick Dees

(sure..a novelty song, but it got waaaaay too much airplay)

Cherchez La Femme by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band

And...

Get Dancin' by Disco Tex and the Sex-o-lettes

More dog dip for this iPad..it is starting to stink

"TOLERATING'' SANTANA ?!!?!?

Where does it say that everyone has to "love" Santana? Especially when your local
oldies classic hits station plays the same two Santana songs over and over. ::)

Disco Duck is so bad it brings a smile to my face. I play it every year at my Halloween party. There's always someone dressed up as a duck. And that's just ducky!
