Speculation: What's coming to 87.7?

WNYZ 87.7 has made a rather sharp transition from Ella Fitzgerald standards music to rock. A member of a rock band named Glib said WNYZ is "exposing Indie artists."

New York City certainly needs an alternative rock more "edgy" than WRXP, that sounds like 92.3 HD2. Kind of like how 87.7 was an "edgier" version of dance than KTU. Would be great if that's the permanent format for WNYZ, hands down better than a god-caster. Wikipedia now doesn't have any references to the upcoming religious station, maybe that deal fell through.Barry said:

I personally think any format is bound not to make money on the frequency shouldn't go for it. No offense to the big dance community on this board, but Pulse and Party proved that it was difficult to keep a uniquely programmed station on the air on 87.7. If the station was making money, they would still be on the air wouldn't they? The attraction factor of 87.7 is not the best. Weak signal, beginning of the dial location, not enough advertising for the station and on the station along with the fact of the whole LPTV situation. Pulse did a great job of advertising through mouth to mouth advertising and I'm sure that the dance format could attain some fair ratings on a stronger signal but other than that it's hard for a station to survive on the 87.7 signal, unless it's a brokered station, in that case ratings don't matter at all.

If the terms of the lease are the same as they were for Pulse 87, they'll lose a lot of money on 87.7.

But those same Koreans would DONATE MONEY to keep the station alive.
In this case it is NOT about cume (take a look at 94.7 WFME for an example of that). Churches can care less about ratings. They just want to keep afloat with donations and being that it IS a religious station, people will donate.
