Speculation: What's coming to 87.7?

It's funny how we're speculating based on an anonymous source on the Wikipedia.

And yet, you're the one that started this thread based on what's on Wiki!
I was hoping the anonymous source who (accurately) told us that Party was ending its lease for 87.7 would chime in here.

Go back one Nick...he did.

WNYZ 87.7 has made a rather sharp transition from Ella Fitzgerald standards music to rock. A member of a rock band named Glib said WNYZ is "exposing Indie artists."
They have a website which mentions a program called "Indie Darkroom" on WNYZ: www.iloveglib.com

New York City certainly needs an alternative rock more "edgy" than WRXP, that sounds like 92.3 HD2. Kind of like how 87.7 was an "edgier" version of dance than KTU. Would be great if that's the permanent format for WNYZ, hands down better than a god-caster. Wikipedia now doesn't have any references to the upcoming religious station, maybe that deal fell through.

I need to remove the mental connection of 87.7 and dance music that's been in my mind since 2 years ago, and accept the fact that we're not getting a dance station on 87.7.

Indie 87.7? HAHA
I personally think any format is bound not to make money on the frequency shouldn't go for it. No offense to the big dance community on this board, but Pulse and Party proved that it was difficult to keep a uniquely programmed station on the air on 87.7. If the station was making money, they would still be on the air wouldn't they? The attraction factor of 87.7 is not the best. Weak signal, beginning of the dial location, not enough advertising for the station and on the station along with the fact of the whole LPTV situation. Pulse did a great job of advertising through mouth to mouth advertising and I'm sure that the dance format could attain some fair ratings on a stronger signal but other than that it's hard for a station to survive on the 87.7 signal, unless it's a brokered station, in that case ratings don't matter at all.

I disagree, If Pulse 87 hadn't started off with so much debt and massive financial situations, then they would still be on the air.

Party just proved its hard to make a largely "Long Island station" work in New York City

Regarding the Pulse portion, I was getting sick of saying this over and over.

Thank you Desi :)

AllAccess.com is reporting it "hears" that on February 1, WNYZ will air a "Korean language format."
I wonder if that is the same one heard on WNYH, 740 AM.

If true, my friends at All Access should have listened to me last week when I said the same thing. ;)

"They are auditioning the signal for interested leasees. The front runners for the signal aren't necessarily Christian but Korean. Could be for a Korean based Church."

Watch 87.7 stunt with the theme song from "Hong Kong Phooey" for 24 hours on Sunday. ;D

But those same Koreans would DONATE MONEY to keep the station alive.

In this case it is NOT about cume (take a look at 94.7 WFME for an example of that). Churches can care less about ratings. They just want to keep afloat with donations and being that it IS a religious station, people will donate.

Maybe the religious station lost the bid for WNYZ. Did that rumor ever surface on All Access or was it only on Wikipedia?

According to http://www.hawaii.edu/hivandaids/Census_Profile__New_York_City_s_Korean_American_Population.pdf, there are less than 100,000 Koreans in New York City, way less than Pulse's cume a few months after it launched or Party's final cume. If the terms of the lease are the same as they were for Pulse 87, they'll lose a lot of money on 87.7.

Exactly, in this situation, they are not looking for cume, they are looking for souls.
