Steve Slaton in 95.7 KJR FM??

notalent said:
KJR FM HD has used Classic Rock as the format identifier since the HD was installed years ago. there is no choice for classic hits and at the time someone else (97.3) was using the "oldies" moniker so that was not a good choice.

Don't read too much into that, nobody has paid attention to that detail in YEARS!

Ok, I won't. But just to let you know they removed "classic rock" from their HD scroll/display about an hour ago.

It'll be good to hear Steve back on the air. I want to see if, after years of having clamped down on the talk, KJR-FM let's Slayton be Slayton. Funny how Clear Channel which had been on a real austerity program has suddenly decided to bring on Bob Rivers & Co. and Steve Slayton. How do you suppose they got that by corporate?

Can anyone explain why they dropped the calls completely? And the the advertising campaign that "The Oldies Are Back"...what do you mean "back", hell they never left.

By the way, anyone catch Slayton's work in KPLU playing Jazz. Darned good!

it was a good broadcast/interview friday morn with slaton on bob rivers. this is actually another great move KJR. didnt someone post prior that KJR was running voice tracks all day long after bob rivers show?

next thing you know, maybe the playlist will even improve with a deeper hit catalog.

oh and slaton, re interview comments about bread. if you go into the earlier bread music, just prior to the big hits, they actually rocked, and top 40'd with it.

yes, it will be interesting to see how and if this thing progresses in the weeks and months ahead.

Live? Or in this age is that a politically-incorrect question?

They specifically talk about being "live and local" on the podcast.

That would be very nice.....If they also gave Slaton a REAL chance to turn this pig around, how could they fail? He literally made KISW the powerhouse it REMAINS. He REINVENTED KZOK.

And whipped out some of the BEST blues shows KPLU ever aired......

um ya mr bongwater.......we were recently led to believe KJR was just gonna be bob rivers and crew in the morning, and the rest of the 24 hour day was a voice tracked/cost cutter mish mash of card readers and that lame safe oldies play list.

....then enters slayton out of left field, as a complete shock to all!

so what do you make of it? KJR will switch to all slaytons all blues? ha ha

what we do want is some "real radio". please, CC/KJR , you can do it. there are several decades of great music that scored big on the top 40. why ignore 95.7% of it, when you can play a little with it, rotate it, and make a show with it.

after all, we are all 40+ and grew up with this AM top 40 stuff. you really think were gonna panic and tune out when we hear an old forgotten one hit wonder, or a non researched old elton john hit, that didnt make it to #1 on the top 40 charts?

Good points, and I totally agree.

I'm 26 myself, and I love 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s music and some tracks from the 90s to the present.

However, it doesn't matter to me if a song didn't hit the Top 40; I love anything that pretty much sounds good, or as they used to say on American Bandstand: If it has a beat and you can dance to it.

Bottom line is I really like stations(like KMCQ) for example that program a deep playlist, in the 10,000 song range or so; and if I were running a radio station(I can dream can't I?), I would program a huge playlist of songs: album tracks, non top 40 hits if they're good, novelty tracks, etc.

KMCQ isn't actually programmed, just so you know... I kind of hate to see the term "programmed" bastardized like that.

It is really hard to say that they will do what they "should" do.

Old PD fighting with corporate over who knows whats best to do in Seattle, PD gets ratings but gets canned.

New PD hires talent out of format but fires legendary talent who got most recent top ratings...

It's schizophrenic there at best.

Every station, hot or not, has been fighting for its financial life since the recession started taking hold in early 08. This is where PD's and various levels of station management are elbowed aside and most of the operation is taken over by the accountants. Paid/Unpaid. credit or debit.. What goes first? The big paychecks and the big contracts. We can all name most of those I'm sure. Accounting people have a job to do and they do it with no soul..
Reduce the air staff (if their is one) to top and bottom of the hour ID's and filling out the log. That's where your "talent" goes completly to hell. The station goes into "safe" mode. No frills, no peeezaaazz..just pay the basic bills and push the place out of the woods. Couple all of the above with the constant audience shift to different technology and you have your combination trainwreck and perfect storm all in one nice neat chaotic package. You have to give CC some credit..What a great example of throwing it all against the wall..

Credit where credit is due, you made no bones about it. Much better than our pal in Whatcom County did when he was challenged.
