That might have been the other station that was fighting with the pirate on 89.3. It was playing hip hop/dance type music.
I've heard a pirate called "College Radio" before, it didn't broadcast 24/7, however this was years ago and I do not remember what frequency it was on, it was somewhere on the noncomm band.

planet compas 89.3 comes in great in dedham and needham, and eastward. its out of Randolph. most of the restuarant and event ads are for around there
1710's ads are exclusively brockton. you forgot 91.7
