You are right Barry. I will no longer try untill the site is fixed and they will not gain an online audience untill.

...it looks like the WGUN calls went down to Valdosta (displacing WGOV)--with 1010 now going by WTZA.

Haven't seen those calls since Channel 62 in New York's Hudson Valley back in the day.

Anyone think the WGOV callsign will end up in Washington?
There goes another set of heritage calls...

For lots of folks (including me) that link/URL does not work. It just causes my computer to want to download a file. That .pls extension is no longer supported in the most recent version of Windows Media Player. It used to be supported. The only way for me to make it play is to open iTunes and copy the URL. Too much of a pain to bother.

If there are several posts about a stations stream not working on some computers, then the problem belongs to the station not using a more user friendly stream.

I think thats part of the reason why the previous iteration of WGUN didnt work. Add to that a confusing format and zero effort in promoting the sation, it's not kuch of a surprise.

The website's 'listen live' link now leads to an .m3u stream. But even if it were still .pls, that alone is a pretty lame excuse for not trying/having other players.

Whoo! Copying that link took a lot outta me.

Maybe it has something to do with issues when the former WGUN could no longer stream. Anyway I tried but I think it will work on my iphone.

 It only worked on your igun with the previous call letters.

I need help.

But doesn't President Obama's proposed legislation keep people from buying an igun?

During the last few days of the call letters, they were being announced "WG...UN", probably to get away from any negative imaging.

The world has changed; WGUN were heritage calls - very popular when established in 1959.
(enforcing call control)

looks like its one of the recent upgrades with 50kw and 45k critical, they would need a complicated array to get more than 78 watts...in this day and age its probably not worth it. only way to tell if the ground system is in bad shape is to take field strength measurements. either way it looks like I got a new station to attempt and DX :)

I don't know the full story of WGUN but after the ownership / heir issue was settled, WGUN had a manager that was quoted to say they were going to get 25KW at night. This most likely would take a 3 + tower tight pattern somewhere outside of Atlanta's 285 to protect Canada. WINS New York City operates 50 KW a lot closer to Canada so it technically can be done. Atlanta still has distressed real estate prices and there are a bunch of planed retail and industrial sites that will never be built. But with over 80% of Atlanta listening to FM this should have been done decades ago.

I'm still enjoying the sounds on 1010 BUT I'm hearing songs repeat way too much. They need to add more music and put in some good ol 60's tunes, Supremes, 4 Tops, Temptations, etc to spice it up. Come on 1010 don't screw it up!

Old School 1010 is just in it's beginning stages. The public doesn't even know this station exist, only radio folks. Once they gain an FM translator, the word will go out. STREETZ 94.5 gets an Urban AC sister station and Hegwood continues to aim at Radio One. STREETZ 94.5 is well staffed with personalities having worked at other stations here. It would be nice to hear Joyce Littel back on the radio.

Exactly why the last format failed. If people dont know, they dont listen.

Does anyone think Steve will launch a translator to relay 1010? And if so, how long will it take?

Two thing stand in the way.

#1 Getting and existing translator moved, according to the FCC website:

http://transition.fcc.gov/mb/audio/newsite/docs/silentFM.html

Tugart Properties LLC (Mr Sutton IIRC) has a few silent ones northeast of Atlanta, but they might be too far away to be moved and have coverage in the Atlanta market. And I am sure any FM operation will not be cheap either if it could be moved inside 285.

#2 Finding an open channel which would be hard:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/vacant?select=city&city=30303

Unless the FCC reduces the second and third adjacent channel interference protection his most likely option is to put something on 102.1 and hopefully be able to work around Praise and not mess with 101.5.

I don't see 1010 getting a translator any time soon. It was tried some years ago and NOTHING. First impressions count and enough people know about the station to get the word out. Don't get me wrong, I still like it but hearing the the music repeat so frequently is anoying and I will tune out. They play way to much Michael Jackson and some music to me that is not old school. You need to program to white and black listeners or the station will most likely fail. Some classic R&B Oldies like I mentioned really is a must.

Old School has an excellent chance of being picked up on a translator I've heard from a reliable source! This format is smart and meets a need that the other FM "oldies" stations have abandoned for a more younger skewed demo. Steve Hegwood is smart and will be successful as he has been in the past. Give it time. Old School 1010 has it's work cut out for it, but the spoils of radio warfare are coming! :D

LA I hope you are right.

OK...I think I'm done with 1010. To much jive music and the same old disco tunes. They refuse to add any of the good Top 40 R&B music. BY!
