Not only is the MOViN format tanking here - it is in several markets. Especially in LA. 0.7 (12+) and they have Rick Dees in the morning and jocks all day.

My guess is that it is not making any revenue and won't be lasting much longer. These new formats in new markets sometimes take time to catch on, but it seems like this one is floundering. Very similar to JACK radio. Some markets it's doing decent and in others it's belly up. We'll see what happens. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

At one point, I was one MOViN's biggest fans, but I have to admit, right now, I'm even disappointed. I thought there would be personalities by now: None. I thought the format was going to be 80's, 90's, and today: I just heard the Bee Gees. It's nothing like what I was expecting it to be, and I hate that.

Like I said before,when you study how it was set up and what it was doing in other markets,it would sink faster than a" submarine with a screen door". I really don't think CBS puts forth an effort in these "wonder formats" Like Free FM, and Movin. Its all just a stop gap,and it appears the gap is widening.

In the San Francisco Bay Area (market #4), CBS flipped Classic Hits KFRC to "MOViN" last September. Previously, KFRC had respectable ratings, and usually finished just out of the top 10. Now its ratings are down by more than half - to 1.1. They have good company though, since CBS's 3 other underperforming FM stations rate just over or under that. Only KCBS - their All News AM - is getting good ratings, as it has for many years. Finally, after 5 months, MOViN has added a morning show, but still have no other on-air staff.

The reason for the low ratings seems to be obvious - the market has too many other stations playing urban hit music, either new, old, or a combination of both. The big winner from all this appears to be KOIT, the "lite" rock station, which has widened its lead as the #1 music station since KFRC switched to MOViN.

My ipod and cd player in the car never play songs I don't like and they're commercial-free. I'll listen to commercials if the station will provide a little entertainment and/or information occasionally.

Good Point!
Perhaps programmers should stop trying to make their stations sound like an ipod and put a little entertainment on. Radio ain't no Ipod and vice versa.

I like this radio station when it was The Oasis. The Oasis is a whole better than this. After all, The Oasis was MY favorite station in Big D. I think CC would flip Mix 102.9 for Smooth Jazz. This happens to be a missing format, and it deserves to have some room.

If we get Smooth Jazz back on DFW's airwaves no matter what frequency within less than a year when it went off the air, I will consider it a small miracle.

I LOVE to have a good job! This is ONE job I would really like! Now-I think KR&B might make the big switch, but It's a low-power station, just like K-Soul-which also plays Urban AC. One of these two should move up to a full-powered frequency, like K-Soul did with 102.1-Which at that time it was called Magic 102.

It IS the music. Maybe at first it was kinda cute but it has no staying power.

Depends on the listener. I'm not much of a smooth jazz fan, so my TSL would be zero.

Smooth jazz might become a more viable format with PPM. I worked at a station that had just flipped from smooth jazz to another format. The old staff that remained said people turned out in droves for station events, concerts, etc. but apparently couldn't be bothered with filling out diaries.

Since it's a viable at work format and AC formats seem to be getting a boost from PPM, I would guess smooth jazz will do much better under PPM too. CBS should have waited a bit to pull the trigger on this one.

I think they ran that ad on TAB or somewhere else about 8 weeks ago. Probably just an EEOC thing. I know of at least 10 people who have gone for a job at Movin' NONE of them got a call back and each and everyone was a stellar talent. Go Figure :

Aw, Rover, there's still some good stuff on the air. KTCU and KNTU have some decent tunes. KERA has a fellow on Sunday nights who does a free-form eclectic show. KNON has a variety of formats, and there's always something interesting coming on KAAM. Sure, the golden era of KZEW/Q102/KAMC/ et al is over, but it's not all bad. Still, don't you wish they'd figure out how to program to the Highest Common Denominator?
