SYNDICATED PROGRAMS THAT HAVE JUMPED FROM STATION TO STATION

Here in Denver, we've had quite a few shows jump from ship to ship over the years. Here's a few off the top of my head

JEOPARDY

Started on KCNC 4 way back when (WELL before the big switch). Went to KMGH 7 (Where it spent the next generation primarily as their 6:00 PM staple after the switch). Now on KDVR 31 (Where it airs in the same familiar 6:00 PM timeslot)

WHEEL OF FORTUNE

Same as Jeopardy only it never aired on KCNC 4 (They only carried the NBC Daytime version) & the only timeslot it's EVER aired at (To the best of my recollection) is 6:30 PM

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT

Started out on KMGH 7 @ 6:30 PM when it first launched. Now on KUSA 9 (Where it has spent the last generation) at the same time

OPRAH

Started out on KMGH 7 but then moved to KCNC 4, bouncing back & forth between the 3:00 PM & 4:00 PM timeslots on both stations (Mostly KMGH 7 until KCNC dumped their 4:00 PM news to accomondate Oprah & Dr. Phil when both were on)

STAR TREK: TNG

KWGN 2 aired the series throughout its entire run Saturdays @ 6:00 PM. Now it airs on Indie KCDO 3

(As a sidenote, KTVD 20 still has (Last time I checked) the local rights to Star Trek: Voyager as it was/still is the only Denver station to air it after its UPN run)

BRONCOS PRESEASON FOOTBALL (I mention this because this has a bearing on who gets first dibs on Monday & Thursday Night rights to games on ESPN & NFL Network)

Started out on KCNC 4 & has historically bounced back & forth between KCNC 4 & KUSA 9

Currently KUSA 9 has the rights (With the games airing on co-owned KTVD 20 which also carries MNF on ESPN & NFL Network exclusive TNF games (Although lately the TNF/i] games have typically gone to KCNC 4 due to it being a CBS O&O & the NFL's partership with CBS)

For a brief period of time, MNF & TNF games could also be seen on KWGN 2 & KDVR 31 as well (But the sound quality was almost always TERRIBLE compared to KTVD 20 & the networks themselves)

CHEERS

Started out on KUSA 9 (Then with ABC) @ 11:05 PM but then moved to KMGH 7 @ 10:35 PM

HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT SIDENOTE - It was because KMGH 7 decided to stick with Cheers that KUSA 9 ended up with the NBC affiliation after the Big Switch. Had this not happened, KMGH 7 (In all likelihood) would be an NBC affiliate today given how things shook out in the end

There's enough to wet your appetite :)

Cheers & 73 :)

I guess I'll add a few more for Los Angeles...

Who Wants to be a Millionaire: KCBS > KCAL/KCBS > KTLA > KNBC > KABC > KDOC/KABC
A Current Affair (original): KTTV > KNBC
Dr. Phil: KNBC > KCBS/KCAL
Dr. Oz: KTTV > KABC > KTTV/KCOP
Rachael Ray: KCBS > KCAL > KABC

Perhaps K.M. or some other Angelino can help here...I know both the original "Tic-Tac-Dough" and "The Joker's Wild" at one point aired on KCOP (whose studio facility both shows originated from for their respective runs) and KHJ (KCAL), but I can't remember in which order. I do remember that the final season of TTD did air on KHJ, and I believe, in fact, it was aired in-tandem with the show that Wink Martindale hosted/produced/co-created after he left the former show--"Headline Chasers".

Here are some I know.

Charles in Charge: WGBS > WPHL
The Cosby Show: WCAU > WTXF > WPSG > WPHL
Family Feud (1999-present): WCAU > WPHL > KYW > WGTW > WTXF > WPHL > KYW > WTXF > WCAU > WPSG/KYW
Family Ties: WTAF > WGTW
Good Times: WPHL > WGBS
Happy Days: WTAF > WGBS > WGTW
Inside Edition: WCAU > KYW > WTXF
Jerry Springer: WGBS > KYW > WPSG > WCAU > WPHL
Judge Judy: WPHL > WTXF
Laverne & Shirley: WTAF > WGBS > WGTW
Maury: WCAU > KYW > WPHL
The People's Court (1981-1994): KYW > WCAU > WTXF > WPVI > WCAU
The People's Court (1997-today): WCAU > WPHL > WPSG
Sanford and Son: WPHL > WGBS
Too Close for Comfort: WTAF > WPHL

Even though the original Wapner TPC ended in 1993, reruns of past seasons aired for another year in syndication.

Sometime during the 89s DONAHUE made the switch from KOA-TV/KCNC to KMGH actually there is a funny story about Donahue and KMGH. When Phil Donahue in 1989 came to Denver to tape a weeks worth of shows of course KMGH made a big deal about that. When KMGH first announced that free tickets to the taping would be available one thing KMGH had failed to mention was that to get those tickets one needed to send to KMGH a self addressed stamped envelope and they didn't say anything about that part for a number of days. Unfortunately for KMGH they would receive lots of requests for tickets but few if any had sent them a self addressed stamped envelope since the viewers didn't know. Anyway KMGH would later ad that part in the promos and those who did sent in a ticket request before KMGH had corrected the information well those folks were out of luck. No tickets for them to see the taping of Phil Donahue in Denver however they did get a letter from KMGH saying how there aren't any more tickets blah blah blah..and in the letter they added "..of course you have our ( KMGH ) permission to watch Donahue on channel 7 !!". The late Paxton Mills who at the time did mornings at "KMJI Majic 100" ( now MIX 100 ) was one who had received such as letter. I remember one morning when he called up KMGH live on the air to ask one of the KMGH switchboard girls "...hey I had received a letter saying that I have your permission to watch Donahue...do I have channel 7's permission to watch Bertha Lynn as well ??". The poor operator at channel 7 didn't know what he was talking about as she kept stuttering "..well I ..I guess you do...what do you mean ?? I I..imagine..well...". I felt sorry for her.

Here is a few

Entertainment Tonight has went back and forth between WYFF, WLOS and WSPA during it's run.

Wheel of Fortune jumped to WLOS from WYFF in 1985 and hasn't looked back. Same thing with Jeopardy! too.

Tic Tac Dough was on WLOS with Wink Martindale, on WSPA with Jim Caldwell, and on WYFF with Patrick Wayne

Some examples from the Yakima/Tri-Cities market.

Inside Edition - KAPP/KVEW to KIMA/KEPR (Moved stations in 2005. 35/42 had aired Inside Edition back to the Bill O'Reilly days.
Live with Regis & Kathie Lee/Regis & Kelly/Kelly & Michael/Kelly - KNDO/KNDU to KAPP/KVEW (Aired on 23/25 from 1988-2002, and moved to KAPP/KVEW in September of 2002. Just until the last 7-8 years, it had always ran in non-9AM hours. Kathie Lee was a noontime staple for many years, then moved to 10AM when Later Today premiered and KNDO replaced the noon hour with local news and EXTRA! KAPP threw it at a very odd 3PM for a couple of years before moving it to the more ideal 9:00am slot.)
Family Feud (1999-Present) - KNDO/KNDU, to KAPP/KVEW, to KCYU/KFFX, back to KNDO/KNDU. Louie Anderson was not seen in this market. 23/25 acquired Feud when Karn was host, and aired it at variable times (afternoons at one point). Moved to KAPP/KVEW after O'Hurley took over, airing at 6PM weeknights. The switch of hosts from John O'Hurley to Steve Harvey prompted KCYU/KFFX to pick it up, at 11AM and later 4PM. It has aired on KNDO/KNDU since late 2014, at 6:30 weeknights.
Maury - Aired on KIMA/KEPR as both The Maury Povich Show (1991-98) and Maury (1998-present), the current version aired until 2003 or 2004. Then moved to KCYU/KFFX at 10AM weekdays for a few years (once every episode became DNA tests and lie detectors), and currently does NOT air in Yakima...thank god!!

How About Love Connection in Los Angeles it went from KHJ-TV to KCAL9 in Los Angeles. However the show is returning in 2017 via Fox Primetime on KTTV.

In New York Love Connection went from WWOR to WNBC and now Fox Primetime in these links.

The two biggest syndication swaps both happened when WYFF gave up Wheel of Fortune in 1985, and then in 1988 Phil Donahue. In both cases, they lost the show to WLOS. I guess with Donahue, WYFF couldn't get a later afternoon time slot for him, which WLOS promised. But they had to make a choice between keeping Phil at 9am and putting St. Elsewhere reruns at 4:00, after Santa Barbara, or moving Phil to another station.

On the subject of talk shows, in Atlanta Regis & Kelly
moved from WAGA to WSB while it was still Regis & Kathie
Lee. Sally also moved from WAGA to WSB; Montel was
back and forth between WSB and WXIA.

Two shows that have been on WSB their entire runs:
Oprah and ET. Inside Edition has been all over the place,
having run on WAGA, WXIA, WSB, and WGCL.

Re Orlando, I understand that WFTV got Wheel Of Fortune
when WKMG passed on Jeopardy! Seems there was no place
to put it before their 5:30 news (they had Happy Days, Three's
Company, and MASH from 4-5:30), and PM Magazine was dominating
the 7 PM ratings in Orlando in 1984. So King World in effect said, take
both or don't take either. WFTV runs Jeopardy! at 7 and Wheel at 7:30,
and WKMG is still looking for a viable competitor.

Same thing in Asheville; WLOS gave up PM Magazine to get Jeopardy and they've had both Wheel and Jeopardy since 1985. WYFF tried PM Magazine opposite J!, but Alex Trebek seemed to dominate every time; 4 has been successful with Inside Edition since 1989.

WLOS/13 in Asheville had the same problem too; WLOS got Jeopardy! when WYFF passed on it; one of the reasons was that 4 had it before Sale of The Century; 13 offered 7:30, right after the Wheel and guess what happened, 4 couldn't find anything to compete with the juggernaut. 4 could have gotten SOTC nighttime, but it would not have went anywhere opposite J!

As far as reruns, WHNS had Little House on the Prairie and Perry Mason for years. WLOS had reruns of Who's the Boss? and Growing Pains for a number of years after General Hospital.(made sense as all 3 were ABC shows). The A-Team also aired after GH too on channel 13 at one point.
