Most radio execs are bean counters and not entertainers/showbiz types. Maybe there would be more innovation if there were more "Characters" in the biz......

I don't know about you, but I don't want my CEO to be a character. I want him to make sure the money is coming in, and that I get paid on time. When I go to the bank, I want my check to clear. I don't want to see a show. Save the characters for the people who are paid to do it.

You know what Big A.....I sure as hell want my CEO to be an innovator. The man who owns the company I work for is the quintessential "character." He owns one of the most profitable media concerns in the universe. He's a billionaire, too!
Being labeled a "character" is not a negative. It simply means you are a person who does not have to follow the crowd....that you're not afraid to be, and act, different from the herd.

That's fine, but someone has to be the grown-up. Someone has to make the hard decisions, and not worry about one's own image. In my view, the problem with some media CEOs is they think THEY are celebrities, and people care what they say. Bill Paley made sure the stars were the ones who got the attention. They should be the face of an organization, not the CEO. I want my CEO to make sure he meets payroll, and makes sure he hired the right people. If you hire the right people, everything else is easy.

I dont believe that streaming will take over AM/FM any time soon. Not until bandwidth becomes cheaper. also what happens if there's Sandy and there's no internet? what if you are in an area that has crappy service? and what if you dont wanna pay to stream? Physical CD's is uncompressed audio and I dont see anybody offering that in the cloud to download. this might not matter a to a lot of people, but for some of us, it does. I do believe that radio needs to have more of the "Radio" injected into the stations. Its only audio on the radio. therefor, make it interesting for the ears like movies make it interesting for the eyes on TV.
