TBS, TNT, truTV, CBS - NCAA March Madness

This is the first year that all the games will be avaiable on TV instead of only being avaiable to watch certain games in certain markets.

I noticed in the program guide that the NCAA Pregame Show will air on truTV. Not CBS, TNT, or TBS. At that time CBS will be airing Price Is Right, TNT - Las Vegas, TBS - Family Guy/Family Guy. Only point Im trying to make why not place the NCAA Pregame Show on one of the more popular Turner Networks. I would have went with TBS or have it on all three Turner Networks leaving CBS open to Price Is Right at 11am and the Local 12pm Newscast.

In Addition, TruTV will carry the first 4 NCAA first round games in Dayton, Ohio-Before The Real March Madness Begins Thursday on CBS & The 2 Other Networks of TBS-TBS & TNT. as well as TruTV.

What gets me is why CBS College Sports isn't being used while TruTV is.....

I don't like the fact that they're tying up TruTV to carry something that's TOTALLY out of its genre (In fact, sports BARELY fits TNT's genre IMO)

I think CBS College Sports MUST have a share in some of the games broadcast IMO.....

JMO.....

Cheers :D

Tru is in far more households than CBSCS. CBSCS is in about 40 million households, truTV is in about 93 million.

Also, Turner had a significant bargaining chip in the fact that they're chipping in several billion dollars for rights.

CBS College Sports Network will be rebranded as "CBS Sports Network" on April 4.

In 2016, TBS and CBS will begin alternating coverage of the Regional Finals and Final Four.

Maybe they figure that the NCAA Tourney would attract more viewers than World's Wildest Police Chases #527 or an episode of Cops from May of 1991.

Just a shot in the dark...

Wow. That's unreal. When did TBS start running "Family Guy" in the morning?

As for CBS [College] Sports Network... Last night after the NCAA selection show, CBS advised viewers to tune into the "Bracket Breakdown" program starting immediately after the show at 7 PM on CBS[C]S. Which I would have liked to check out... except that channel apparently is a premium channel for Verizon Fios subscribers. If CBS wants more visibility for its cable network, they'd better work on clearance. (But, hey, as long as I can get NFL Network for free, I'm not complaining. ::) )

There's one problem: we don't get truTV HD yet here.

The gains are extremely large for markets where the CBS affiliate did not multicast and still large in markets like Phoenix, Atlanta, Raleigh, and Louisville because (at least in Phoenix and Atlanta) the digital transition forced a downsizing of offerings in 2009 and 2010.

The digital transition didn't force the downsizing. The NCAA did. They only allowed two games to be shown per market on CBS. In the case of KPHO Phoenix, 5.1 was in HD, and 5.2 (normally their weather channel) was in SD.

Now, KPHO is only showing one game at a time, and I'm guessing the other CBS stations are as well. The rest are on the Turner channels. At least they're still all online for free, for those of us who don't have cable (I'm surprised Time-Warner went along with this).

here is why Turner is running NCAA basketball on TruTv -- as a result of this, Comcast in Houston is adding TruTV HD to the lineup (in addition to the existing SD channel) although it might only be temporary (although it probably will be added back as the network upgrade is completed and analog is migrated to digitial, which is underway throughout the Houston area -- my area is targeted for March 22 but other areas of town might be a year away from the digital migration for Comcast's signal)

Indeed, David Levy, the president of Turner Sports, is quoted as saying: "I'll be honest, [TruTV's inclusion in the new NCAA TV deal is] part of the reason and the excitement that we took on this tournament and put it on three of our networks, to get TruTV to have more viewers and more reach."

Kinda like how NBC put the Olympics on nine of their cable networks - only the networks were mostly established in the cable universe by then.

Quite frankly, I think CNN would be a good fit for the coverage of NCAA March Madness, as well as The Newly re-branded CBS Sports Channel (Formerly Known as CBS College Sports). Let TruTV have those stupid, crazy sitcoms "All Worked Up", & "Operation Repo".

I noticed this weekend that DirecTV has added truTV HD as well. From what I see, this channel will only carry NCAA baskeball and will go away once truTV's coverage of March Madness ends.

truTV HD, a channel Cox promised months ago, was added today on 745. I think here it will be a permanent addition.

I think it would be better on HLN, it would beat the crap that they play now

The owner of my favorite radio station, who is also the morning DJ, said all the games would be there.

This is, of course, impossible. In the early days, aren't four games on at once?

Fortunately, I don't listen to music all that much, but I'll have to hope whoever is in charge of Mike Huckabee's web site makes sure the broadcasts I miss are there.

Verizon also added TruTV in HD yesterday on FiOS channel 683 (500 higher than the SD channel)

2 of those games air tonight.

If any channel needs to be rebranded, it's HLN. HLN should be rebranded to CNN-SI or Sports Illustrated Network (Since SiTV already belongs to a Latin network)

Thoughts?

Cheers :D
