The Best Signal In The Triangle Is...

To answer the question about 'RVA (formerly WTRG, an oldies station), I've heard, though intermittently (at times), the signal in some parts of Greensboro and even once or twice in Kernersville! They are said to have one of the largest "footprints" (coverage areas) of an FM station in the nation, but I don't think *the* largest. And I've also heard 100.7 around Morehead City some years back, as well as 101.5, 106.1 and 94.7 from Raleigh...but Wilmington, well I can certainly understand 101.3 making it iffy to get WRAL in-town, but aren't there other Triangle signals that can get into New Hanover? I want to say 'QDR, but I think there's a 94.5 in WIL that would mess it up? What about 106.1?

WRVA-FM, formerly WTRG-FM, is the 12th "strongest" FM in the nation with a coverage of more than 10,220 miles. Can be heard in three states; NC, SC and VA.

can anyone find the "list" that contains these FM's ranked on their coverage/strength ? say...12 to number 1 ? :D

South Carolina? Isn't that really, really pushing it?

No, WRVA definitely reaches three states regularly. Like I said earlier on in this post, on a early April afternoon this year, I picked up WRVA well all the way at the I-26/I-20 interchange just NW of Columbia, and I have picked it up in Charleston several times. They bring a good signal almost all the way down I-95 in NC, which is an accomplishment when it goes almost 185 miles in the state.

It only drops off usually close to South of the Border, and in the Lumberton area, it starts getting a little bit of interference from WGTN in Andrews, SC.

I haven't tested the signal to the west, but it probably has a good signal all the way into the Burlington area before it goes out.

Another one of the great signals from the Triangle and Pee Dee (Florence) areas is 95.7, WKML from Lumberton. About half the time, especially in the mornings in Charleston, I can pick up a good signal from them, with a signal in Orangeburg interfering. You can always hear them, along with 96.5 from Fayetteville all over the Grand Strand, and it doesn't usually drop out on 95 until about Manning.

Of course, 101.1 from Burlington has a great signal, also, covering both the Triad and the Triangle.

??? ??? I'd like to know where you got that from??? Can you back it up with some kind of source? Hell, I have never seen any figures like.."The 12th Strongest Station in the Nation" Do they use that as a promo?

Ape....

ive wondered the same thing. but somewheres, on the 'net i have seen that quote...but how reliable it is... thats beyond me.

anyone with some cold hard facts and info? sources? - 12th strongest does sound like something CC might would have used as a promo when it was Oldies 100.7

To be honest I got that info from an engineer in the building. So I'm repeating what I was told from someone I respect. The info was never used on air, ie a liner "12th strongest...". Why would you. Unless your #1 what's the point of mentioning it?

Same CE told me that the station covers approx 10,226 sq miles.

So to put that in perspective that's a little over 100 miles by 100 miles square.. Sorta like gasoline, when it was $4.00 a gallon...That's not much when you say...gasoline ain't but $1.00 a quart!!!

Nobody has mentioned WMIT don't they have a killer signal? For an FM that is.

WMIT (106.9, "The Light", a religious station owned by Billy Graham) has a killer signal, indeed! I've heard it in some parts of Greensboro at times, well over 100 miles away from its tower near Mt. Mitchell! (The highest point east of Mississippi River) Ironically, though, they need "translators" to be adequately heard around the local area of theirs in Asheville! I wonder how far that signal can be heard in other directions, like toward the south and toward Atlanta?

I have heard them near Raleigh a couple of times, but usually 106.9 in Southern Pines mixes in too much to tell it's The Light other times. And Foxy 107 doesn't help a lot up there either...

And if you were up close to Danville, you'd also have 106.7 ("K-Love") to contend with...

WMIT usually has a great signal to the south, as I have heard it many times around the Columbia area, but you have to really get north and northwest of Columbia before you start getting a good signal usually, because of WTCB in Orangeburg at 106.7.

They have a great signal because except for that station in Southern Pines, there is nothing on 106.9 until you get to the station on Hilton Head at 106.9.

Virginia Beach, VA has a 106.9. I wonder if anyone has gotten a 106.9 The Fox in Raleigh, because the have a strong signal. I got 106.9 The Fox on my Stereo at home a couple times, and I live just north of Durham.

100.7 gets my vote.

On a cloudy day you can get it in Richmond Va. Really booms into Spiveys corners as well.

;D Spivey's Corner..Ain't that where they have the "Hollaring Contest"? Hell, they don't need to hear any radio stations there with all those "windbags"

106.9 in VA Beach is a beast....Has anyone picked up WPZZ 104.7 the tower is located off I-85 in Blackstone VA and I have it up with no problem in Raleigh and Durham and has picked it up almost in Washington DC.

WRVA is the strongest. I didn't see anything about WFXK 104.3 I think they get out good too.
