The Eagle

<Wipes drool off chin>

WHERE THE HELL DO I SIGN UP?? I'll take ANY time slot open.. THANK GOD THE EAGLE IS BACK!!!!!!!!!

It sounds a little unfocused to me. In just about an hour of total listening I heard the Doors, Def Leppard, Puddle of Mudd, Limp Biskit, Nine Inch Nails and Van Halen.

The new Eagle sounds like a catch all for all things rock rather than a finely-tuned rocker.

Not sure I'm all that enthused by it.

That is the point if you ask me. Who wants to hear the same crap over and over? Just new rock gets old, just old rock gets old. I can't think of a better idea then to have both new rock and old rock on one station. It makes the listening experience so much more enjoyable to not have to hear the same crap over and over.

For those of you who think this format has no chance, look at KATT in Oklahoma City. I know we're in Dallas, and not Oklahoma City, but there is still a point. The point being that KATT 100.5 is the #1 rated station in Oklahoma City and has a format very similiar to the Eagle. Those who don't like the Eagle need to complain about some other station they don't like. Dallas needs a good rock station like this. I'm not sure what their plans are for the Edge seeing as they are sister stations, but i'm sure things will be ok.

Remember when we had 92.5 KZPS, 93.3 The Zone, 94.5 The Edge, 97.1 the Eagle, and Q102 all at the same time? That was nice.

It sounds good to me. Nice change.

As long as they keep playing Def Leppard,
AC DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Van Halen .. I'll
be there... Throw on Pantera and I'm gone.
Guess I'm one of the select few in Dallas
that thinks they sucked (and still suck).

Hopefully, Vince Richards learned some stuff
when he worked at KSHE. Maybe Rick Balis
and Al Hofer gave him some mentoring as
to how to program a REAL ROCK STATION
with staying power.

Throw us some Triumph, Rush, or some of those old
KSHE classics, and show these crazy Texans some
GOOD music. Please!

No not really. To me it sounds like the Eagle in its current incarnation is a sort of heavy metal version of Jack. It's sort of a catch all category of all things rock.

It might work but it's not necessarily my cup of tea. I left those classic rock staples behind 15 years ago. I'd prefer an edgier more modern rock-focused station. That's just me.

I wish them the best. Glad there's another rock option on the dial even if it's not exactly what I was hoping for.

Any TEXAS ROCK station that DIDNT play Pantera... will not last. Especially a DALLAS ROCK station. By the way, 18-34 males... don't want to hear TRIUMPH.

Ok, i'd have to say this is throwing me off.....Erasure - Chorus? All things rock is cool with me, but Erasure isnt rock....I won't criticize though, i'm just glad the Eagle is back.

That's what I say, what's wrong with this picture??

It is a computer foulup. They had 2 rap songs play yesterday as well. I had a tune pop up one night that shouldn't have and it was because the log number was very close to the correct song's number. The MD mistakenly entered it instead. I did not mind...it was a Pantera tune. ;) Oh yeah, in response to the earlier post that said males 18-34 do not want to hear Triumph...think again.

Makes sense.

Has anyone else heard that 50,000 watt drop the Eagle plays occasionly in between a song. They are a 99,000 watt station I thought. I assumed they were talking about their broadcast wattage, but maybe they were just generally speaking electricuting yourself with 50,000 watts. I dunno.

No offense, but I think CC will forsake your happiness to avoid playing Pantera. This isn't Z Rock you know? ;D

Now, get some of that "Hell Yeah" on there for a late night show, and you might have something. ;)

Thank you.

That's just one example among many. Go to any major
retail store and check out the teenagers and 20ish crowd wearing
old classic rock tees. I have yet to see a Pantera one though. Funny
how everyone says "Oh, Pantera was such an influential rock band
of the 90's and all time" yet hardly any Classic Rock station plays them,
even in medium rotation. Compare that to Nirvana, Metallica, or
Pearl Jam tunes of the 90's. Have you (Fozzie) ever thought that maybe only
hardcore metal listeners like them, and not the masses. Appealing
to the masses is the name of the game, like it or not. And again, as
an example, I believe rock listeners certainly recognize "Magic Power"
"Hold On" or even "Follow Your Heart" better than "Cowboys From
Hell" or "Cemetery Gates".

I was also going to mention the Guitar Hero craze and all that it is doing for our guitar heroes of the past. The younger set is finally recognizing for themselves the talent of the 70's and 80's (without the media bias against it). As far as Pantera is concerned, Dimebag was/is an amazing guitarist. He was shredding with the best of them in the 80's, yet was able to totally change/update his style in the 90's and beyond. I think the reason Pantera did not get the airplay they deserved was because of the fact that they were on the "hard" side when radio tends to stay "safe". You mentioned Cowboys from Hell and Cemetary Gates...I think those two songs prove my earlier statement about Dimebag's diversity. Now, if you had mentioned "Hard Ride" or "Blue Light Turning Red"...I would agree that those songs might be passed over( even though I still dig 'em)... :D I think a great rock station would play all of the above..the Triumphs/Sagas...the Zeppelins/Pink Floyds...The Tools/Alice in Chains...The Avenged Sevenfolds/Coheed and Cambrias( can you say Geddy Lee? ;)) I think a rock station should find a way to play them all.

OK..first of all, Pantera doesn't test. Therefore nobody plays them very much. They're usually "gutted in" for credibility's sake. And it's usually either "Walk", or "Planet Caravan"

Secondly, none of those deep tracks you mention test either. (seeing a pattern?)

I've always contended that your real audience is living their lives and doesn't take music tests. But, I'm usually told I'm wrong and that I'm never going to get anywhere with that attitude.

What's wrong with hearing "Say What You Will" by Fastway once in a while? Or, "Fight The Good Fight" by Triumph. Hell...you're in Texas...where's "Over My Head" by Kings X?

You won't hear them because they (let's all say it together) "Don't Test"

Music isn't linear. Reading numbers doesn't elicit emotion. And oh yeah...playing a 20 second hook, asking people to fill out a bubble sheet, and expecting that to be representative of music passion scores is silly.

...but I'm just one guy with an opinion.

And that is...If Linkin Park is the answer, we need a new question!

Give me "Swords & Tequila" by Riot or any Thin Lizzy over Nickelback every time.

Paul...you really should find it in yourself to be passionate about something...ok? ;) Riot. Hell yeah. That's why I love you. :)

Better make it at least two guys, because I share the same opinions. Of course the CONsultants will defend music testing as a life or death situation...
