The future of 997 the blitz

Sorry, don't know how I overlooked your post before.

The statement about Active Rock was partially about ratings, but also reflects the format flips by some high-profile, longtime Active Rockers over the past year (although in some markets, such as Miami (WZTA), other stations have come in to fill the void).

As for ratings, I recall R&R's Fall Rock Ratings recap article warning that well over half of both Active Rockers and Alternatives declined vs. the previous book. Besides music programming issues, they have to deal with thorny problems such as Arbitron methodology (capturing 18-24 males has always been a problem and is getting worse with more young households going cellphone-only); and the fact that musical tastes in that demo are now often less rock-oriented and more hip-hop oriented.<P ID="signature">______________

Assuming you're talking about non-polarizing currrents (e.g., minus all but the "lightest" hip-hop), what you would have is somnething a bit like today's Hot AC WMMX in Dayton but with an even broader gold library. And yes, that sound does have something in common with some earlier incarnations of CHR. And it sure does well in Dayton, with 12+ sometimes nipping at a 10 share.

But I think moving Ted to 99.7 pretty much as is (maybe a little fine tuning like canning the Soft AC) would easily produce a 4-5 share with adequate promotion and programming care. But more importantly from a revenue standpoint, it could be top three 25-54. That is, assuming the displaced Active Rock fans don't burn down the station. (Sorry for stereotyping...just kidding).

Go to Germain about 11am the day of Ozzfest and tell me there is no market.

If advertisers want to pass up on Males 18 - 35, then they are just stupid.

They do trust me!

No advertiser will buy on it. The only place to get metal on terrestrial radio is generally on college radio specialty shows. Otherwise there's online streaming or satellite radio. Metal is one reason I have a Sirius subscription, they do a nice job with "Hard Attack" channel 27.
