The statement about Active Rock was partially about ratings, but also reflects the format flips by some high-profile, longtime Active Rockers over the past year (although in some markets, such as Miami (WZTA), other stations have come in to fill the void).
As for ratings, I recall R&R's Fall Rock Ratings recap article warning that well over half of both Active Rockers and Alternatives declined vs. the previous book. Besides music programming issues, they have to deal with thorny problems such as Arbitron methodology (capturing 18-24 males has always been a problem and is getting worse with more young households going cellphone-only); and the fact that musical tastes in that demo are now often less rock-oriented and more hip-hop oriented.<P ID="signature">______________
