The lights are out at the "Power" house!!

Bob Marley? There's so much better reggae out there than Bob Marley. I love how these so called progressive rock stations are stuck limiting their reggae to a dinosaur. Come on guys, get with the times.

I guess Marley is part of the rock radio infrastructure. Here in New York, one of the new songs K-Rock plays is from a Jamaican artist, a song called "Jam-Rock", I think. Seems to be playing every time I tune into 92.3.

This also a classic example of how local can beat, syndicated, Hot 93.7 is live and local at all times, even there training prospects are on the over nights where as power was voice tracked and syndicated, and the 2 deejays they had on the air live didnt do much for entertainment, when spank first came on he had this them song that all the high school kids used to sing along to and he had so good celebrity interviews but then that all kind of stopped. The mid day jock just to honest didn't sound like she was reading the liner cards properly and she didnt sound as if she was having a good time, or knew the music, and the American public is not stupid. PJ her show could have been alot better if it was live more often, her competition was live, managment. should have put her on live to give her a chance!

Another problem that "POWER" is had is they didn't counter program HOT.

HOT 93.7's Sunday Night Line up is as follows:

5PM-6PM Urban Voices - Local Talk Show dealing with issues facing inner city youth
6PM-7PM Regular Music
7PM-9PM The Reggaeton Show (Spanish Hip-Hop)
9PM-11PM Reggae Show

And POWER's Sunday Night LineUp was as Follows:

5PM-7PM Old Skool Show
7PM-9PM Reggaeton Show
9PM-11PM Reggae Show

See? Two hip-hop stations nowhere to here hip-hop music from 5PM-11PM on Sundays.

Also The Steve Harvey Show. Wrong for POWER 104. They were a hip-hop station. Steve has said on his show he does not like hip-hop music. By the way, not including the stint where they just play hip-hop music 6AM-10AM from September 03 to April 04, 104.1 hasn't had a local morning show since Dee Snider.

And I don't like Wendy Williams. It's not because I'm not in her target demo, it's because she talks way too much. Shut up and play music.

So let's review...WCCC is supposed to be Active Rock. WHCN is a rock-leaning Adult Contemporary station, if you can call it that. WPHH is modern rock once again. I would imagine that some people are going to complain that the station didn't flip to Spanish. In greater Hartford, that would've made sense. Had that happened however, 104.1 FM would'nt have me as a listener (I don't listen to 840, 910, 990 or 1120 at all). I'm happy that Clear Channel flipped the station back to Modern Rock. I just hope that it's a wise choice this time around.

it would not have been a good look for them to go Spanish in Hartford because, although there are alot of Latin business, most of them are mom and pop it would have been hard for get used to paying big FM advertisement dollars. so they could gain listeners, but sales would suffer

The spanish speaking population is actually decreasing in Hartford. It's pointless here. The new immigrants are from India and Eastern Europe. Good luck targeting them!

I remember Hot 93.7 was Spanish a long time ago, what happened then, crappy ratings,I don't remember.as of now how many times 104.1 change formats and call letters since it was first on the air.Hahaha this reminds me of a million of changes on 1220 AM.

Good news for Hot 93.7 . Power 104.1 was never going to be good as Hot 93.7 . Look for Hot 93.7 return to the top of Hartford 12-plus Ratings .

Be careful how you word that. 93.7 FM was WLVH-FM, a.k.a. The Latin Voice For Hartford, until 1990. If I'm not mistaken, the had a studio on Maple Avenue somwhere. The station has only been known as Hot 93.7 since March of 2001.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me.

HOT 93.7 was undoubtedly a better hip, hop station but did Power 104.1's current numbers really warrant a format flip and will a rock format really pull in higher numbers and bill more than Power? Not sure I understand why they felt they should change formats....

I posted a detailed 1220 list on a board about 10 years ago. Well here's my 104.1 list.

WWCO-FM, traditional country, 12/1967 - 1972 (Simulcasted WWCO-AM's top 40 in some dayparts for its first few months. Simulcasted sponsored syndicated beautiful music show overnights for a few years.)
WIOF (called W104), still traditional country, 1972-1978
WIOF (called W104, Magic 104), soft rock, 1978-1981
WIOF (called WIOF, Magic 104), still soft rock, 1981 - 9/1/1992
WYSR (Star 104.1), 80s/90s, 9/1/1992 - 1994
WMRQ (radio 104), modern rock/alternative, 1994-2003
WPHH (Power 104.1), urban contemporary, 2003-2007
WPHH (fm 104one), back to alternative, 2007-

BTW - I just noticed they took away the audio service on radio104.com that they have been running since the 2003 switch to urban. The site just has only a large fm 104one logo.

I have to disagree with you here, Bill. My memory has me remembering Star 104.1 being on the air in July 1991. I seem to remember they had it on at the grand opening of some store at the now defunct soon to be demolished (by the end of 07 beginning of 08) Mall at Bristol Centre in Bristol, CT.

Marc - I remember it as 9/1/1992. I was doing weekends at WWCO at the time (which was then in a few motel rooms) and I edited an aircheck (in what used to be a bathroom) to send to the new Star for a similar position. CO was not in a motel in 1991. I should have filed this post under Career Memories and Crazy Stories. :)

Or the myriad of changes to 990 AM in Southington. ;D

WLVH dropped Spanish for an all-weather format around 1990 or therabouts. It flipped to 93.7 WZMX about a year or 2 later.

To you lazy Rockheads , You dont have to change your station , while driving a round trip to Boston ( 104.1 to 104.1 ) .
