I had a dog that needed reconditioning after being abused and rescued. Every time I called her to come by the name she came with she cowered, slinked toward me, flinching. So I decided to give her a new name and start from scratch. She was almost 6 years old when I got her.
So, I sat on a bar stool with a glass of wine and talked to her, going through standard dog name type names. She sat there and looked at me. I sang "Hello Mary Lou", and she sat there and looked at me.
I decided that if anyone saw this going on they would think I completely lost it, so I sang, "Iiiiiii wanna tell you a story 'bout a Mary Lou, the kind of girl who'll make a fool outa you". She got up and barked and danced in circles with her tail wagging, came to the bar stool and jumped around as if to stomp her little front paws up and down.
From that day on I guess you figured what her new name was. And she became a happy dawg for the next 8-1/2 years.
