The New 103-KVE

The New 103-KVE

Listened this evening to the launch of The new 103-KVE. Took road trip and picked the station loud and clear from South Park, Bethel Park, Brentwood, down the Mon Valley and up on 30, processing sounded fine on my Infinity system in my vehicle. Heard Mike J Daniels doing a KHB style weather break . The station has a good local sound . A mix between the vintage days of YDD and DVE. Your new KVE sounds great Bob. I locked a preset and have been making calls and passing the word around.

Re: The New 103-KVE

I was on sales calls this afternoon in Weirton and Steubenville. While on Penco Road and Three Springs Drive the signal was solid and the stereo light was on. When I got on Rt 22 west going through downtown and across the river the signal fadded. Once on Sunset Blvd in Steubenville back again loud and proud! I agree the music mix is great...this old radio warrior wishes you guys well. heck...as other posters noted, would love to see a simulcast on 103.5...if that happened the RF would come through my phone at work!

Re: The New 103-KVE

Will it come in clearly at Forbes and Shady? What about some oldies like on 770/

Re: The New 103-KVE

It was fading in and out this evening in the North Hills, even at higher elevations like Ross Park Mall.

Re: The New 103-KVE

When I caught the station on the air a few times last week, the signal was excellent in the Mckeesport, White Oak, Glassport area's when I was in the car! At home I have a little Grundig S350DL radio & the signal was at full power on the digital meter! Good luck with the station Bob! Looking forward to more local, interesting & different programming to listen too. We all know these days it's few & far between!

Re: The New 103-KVE

I am hoping they are back on soon. I've been contacting everyone I know who keeps asking
me "when is Pittsburgh going to get a decent radio station?" and told them to stay tuned to 103.1.
They are starting to think I am pulling their leg.

The problem here is that a "decent radio station" is subjective, and defined by the listener. In general, I find Pittsburgh
radio to be "decent," but unexciting. (Although I would enjoy having a "decent" oldies station; 3WS has sided with DVE,
WJPA and WPKL/WKPL don't cover the city well, 770 is a little too old for my tastes, etc.)

Whoever said "interesting" and "different," however, has probably hit the nail on the head.

Re: The New 103-KVE

since Pittsburgh lost 98.3 and 106.7 to religious broadcasters, I would think that this is a good time for rimshots. And does anybody know why BOB is beating Wish and 3WS? When I am in PGH, seems like BOB, LTJ, and 3WS play a lot of the same stuff. Could WJPA get a power boost?

Maybe more people like the songs they play.

Seriously, though, my wife won't listen to a 60's song for 5 seconds, so 3WS is not even on her radar screen. I'm sure that's true of a lot of women in their 40's.

Unlikely. 95.1 in the Youngstown market is licensed to Grove City, PA; Froggy 95.5 (which was the original WKYE) in Johnstown is a huge signal that covers Westmoreland County, and second-adjacent Froggy 94.9 is too close as well. Same goes for second-adjacent 95.7 in Wheeling.

The best WJPA could do would probably be if they could cut a deal with 95.1 which would allow them to move north a little, but they are doing fine as a local Washington County station.

They do. BOB and 3WS are basically in a classic-hits battle. We'll see next month.

Could WJPA get a power boost?

No. They are constrained by 95.1 Grove City, 95.5 Johnstown, and possibly others.

EDIT: I see that "Parttimer" beat me to the question while I was typing my answer.

I am a woman in her 40s and as far as myself (and the majority of my friends) it's not true at all.

BOB plays more festive music, for lack of a better way to express it, and they manage to mix it up (including the older songs) without some of the horrid clashes (Four Tops into B-52s) that 3WS has. 92.9's constant announcing is annoying and they sseem to go out to their way to play lame chick-pop. (Colbie Caillait, etc)

Well said -- especially if you're not in the radio business.

I was out to lunch the other day with a friend and found this out but didn't think anything of it. They said the tower owner both of those stations share is forcing them to reduce power output for days at a time right now due to some kind of work going on up there. Could that be affecting the PPM numbers?

Re: The New 103-KVE

so....have they given up, or are they just simulcasting WZUM?? ???

Re: The New 103-KVE

The station is still testing. Again, I'll have to defer to Bob as to when the actual launch will take place, but I think it
will be soon.

Re: The New 103-KVE

HEY CLARKE!

KEEP LISTENING TO WHAT?? DEAD AIR!!!

OH WAIT THAT IS WHAT WE WERE STUCK WITH BACK IN FEBRUARY WHEN WE HAD THE SNOWSTORM.

I GUESS BOB IS DOING EVERYBODY A BIG FAVOR HERE WITH "DEAD AIR RADIO".

I'LL PUT ON MY WALKMAN AND GO FOR A JOG OUT IN THE COUNTRY, I'LL TUNE IN "DEAD AIR 103.1", THEN I'LL BE ABLE TO HEAR THE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD TODAY.

THANK GOD FOR FOR BOB STEVENS, HE SAVED ME FROM BEING HIT BY ALL THESE GAS WELL TRUCKS TODAY.
