There's no room for a station that plays unfamiliar songs

WYEP has a dedicated base of paying members who SEND THEM MONEY to play unfamiliar songs.

WYEP has an AQH in afternoon drive of fewer than 1000 people, and a TSL of 1:15. That's dedication for you.

I'll bet the STL doesn't even have a Fargo Hole!

We use phone lines to the AM transmitter site, not an STL. WKVE is at a different site, much further to the south, and an
STL is utilized there.

Re: The New 103-KVE

Not bad so far - I always like hearing songs that DVE would never play. Needs 70's and 80's punk and alternative rock (Ramones, Replacements, Clash, Social D, etc.) added to the mix.

I wouldn't hold your breath for too much of that. You might hear the Clash, though.

listened for a while this afternoon while driving around Washington county ( south strabane) and It didn't seem like the fidelity was up to snuff. maby that's just not a good spot for reception. the music mix was cool though.

There is something wrong with the audio processing. There is a growling distortion in the midrange. It's more noticeable on some songs than others. It almost sounds like slight over mod at times. The problem could be in the main airchain or in the STL.

I'm listining on my home stereo with JBL speakers. I have an outdoor antenna with a rotor so I know it's not a reception problem.

Re: The New 103-KVE

A lot of this technical stuff is a little beyond me. But what I do know is that I'm liking the musical selection a whole lot. And I've turned friends of mine onto the station who, as well are linking what they are hearing. Again, I don't know a lot about the technical aspect of reception and all that stuff, I just wish the signal would be stronger out here in the Johnstown area.

Re: The New 103-KVE

Can't hear the station, but I'm told its been tweaked nicely in the last few days. That's a good thing.

Yes, I am noticing that audio distortion too. Very much so over the past two days.

Was it that way back in the days of the old Export Telephone Company? Because I don't ever recall
620 WHJB sounding like the DJ was on helium and broadcasting from the bottom of a well.

Re: The New 103-KVE

I can't speak for the old WHJB, but bear in mind that most of the paid programs on 620 are done on a phone-in basis
by the hosts, often via cell phone. In that respect we are at the mercy of the quality of the technology on the end
of their phone (or phone line).

And, yes, technically, a phone line to the transmitter is an STL, although I rarely have heard one referred to as such.

Re: The New 103-KVE

Yes, when Dr. Winer sounds like his is calling in from a public phone in a railway station
somewhere in Uzbekistan, that makes his program even better!!! ::)

Re: The New 103-KVE

Was just appointed PD of an traditional AOR in Cincinnati. We have a website and we stream too. Online listenership approaches one million a month. It is my hope that KVE starts both as well.

Which station? Fox 92.5?

Re: The New 103-KVE

been listening off and on to 103.1 for a week or so and have yet to hear a spot. long long can a station go without any ad revenue ? overall the sound is ok...music mix is right down my ally.

Re: The New 103-KVE

For the past week or so they have been running spots for a Waynesburg car dealer. They run in the blocks before the weather reports. BYW, the weather reports sound very out of place. They need to get more FM sounding jocks to read them and an overall better presentation. They just scream small town station the way they sound now.

I hope they are planning a website and other ways to get word of the station out to people. It's been on nearly a month now and almost nobody knows about the station.

I was just going to say that they need a Facebook group or page.

Re: The New 103-KVE

if we need Facebook pages to direct people to stations....then radio is SO SCOOOOOOOOOD!
