the New Rewind 103.5/104.3

I'll also edit to add:
We have 93.3, 94.7, 96.3, 103.5/104.3, 105.7, 106.7 and 107.9 all playing various 80s pop/rock in their playlists. This type of music must really be doing well in PPM, because we sure have enough of it here. You can probably scan the FM at any given time and hear a Def Leppard or Bon Jovi song somewhere.

And we thought Columbus had to many "country" stations ;)

Consider that someone who was 15 in 1985 is now 40 -- right in the middle of the 25-54 "money demo." Also, 80's music was arguably less polarized than 70's, 90's or 00's.

That said, several years back who would have ever thought that seven stations would be playing Bon Jovi!

And I forgot 103.9. I've heard 80s rock on there, but not sure about Bon Jovi.

They do play Bon Jovi. Better make thet eight stations!

BTW, I *do* agree that Rewind will probably take a bit of listening away from WSNY, although overall it will probably help the cluster to the extent possible with these weak signals (which isn't a whole lot). It's also a MAJOR lost opportunity for Clear Channel, which could have hurt Sunny more -- AND served the market far better -- by switching 93.3 WLZT to a format like this instead of stubbornly persisting with a duplicative frontal attack that earns anemic ratings except around Christmas. There would have been some overlap with the Brew, but nowhere near enough to offset the benefits. Actually, with the hugely superior signal at 93.3 CC could still switch it to a similar format and keep Rewind from gaining any traction.

One more thing: I spend a lot of time around Chicago, and I hear Bonneville's Rewind playing in workplace after workplace -- easily more than any other station, and loads more than CC's mainstream AC WLIT. I know that's not a scientific survey, but it's so prevalent it's almost a little freaky. A lot of those businesses may not even know the station's calls or handle, but the PPM doesn't care.

BTW, while I personally really like the change at 103.5/104.3, one thing I am sorry to see go is the Harmonic Lounge.

You can still listen to the Harmonic Lounge at this website http://www.wavjazz.net/Harmonic Lounge.html

Thanks SMPRICESOLUTIONS for the shout out. You can also stream the Harmonic Lounge on the four terrestial stations it still plays on every Sunday. Just hit the website (www.harmoniclounge.co) for the links. We are working hard to reopen our doors in central Ohio and talks are ongoing with a couple of stations.

I talked to 'em for eight years, got nowhere, and now tell 'em all off instead, on the 'CRS airwaves and webwaves. Gonna have a good zinger on the show tomorrow night at about 7:52.
177 episodes so far of love for the music and hate for those who tried to stop it.

A little off-topic but...I don't understand why so many stations are using the "rewind" brand. Who rewinds anything anymore?

VCRs were big in the 80s, and you can rewind a VHS (or Beta) tape with them. Ditto with a cassette music player. Although IMO, the WODB calls would have been more than appropriate to use.

Wow....they're going after "GenX 106.7".

Not really, this is more late 70's 80's focused, where genX is more 90's. also I seriously doubt there will be any rap here.

the station is almost an exact copy of WREW in Cincinnati.

Lots of words and phrases continue to be used in a figurative sense long after the literal meaning has become irrelevant. Rewind will probably be one of those. E.g., people still often say, “you dialed the wrong number,” even though dial phones have long been nearly extinct. And in radio people still talk about the number of “spins” a song has received

Some hip-hop tracks (Sugarhill Gang/Run DMC/Beastie Boys) could be played on a station like Rewind... although hip-hop didn't really make a mark in the CHR format until around 1991.

I'm surprised at how often I hear Rewind go through very mainstream/soft-AC stretches. You could almost be listening to Sunny or 93.3. An example would be Journey's "Who's Crying Now" followed by Berlin's "Take My Breath Away," followed perhaps by a song that is gently upbeat yet very soft-AC-compatible like Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You." I even heard "Snoozy Easy" by Lionel Richie. This is kind of surprising for a station that the GM insisted "will play no ballads, only the greatest uptempo hits" -- even if one acknowledges that an occasional break in tempo is a good thing. But sometimes that break seems more than occasional and brief with Rewind.

All that said, the dominant tempo is still upbeat, and I doubt you'll be hearing "The Safety Dance," "Hysteria," or "You Shook Me" on Sunny any time soon (although "you Shook Me" seems to be becoming ubiquitous on pop radio). I still like the station a lot in this very-early phase of its evolution, although excursions like those described here sometimes make me go "hmmm..." with regard to both the stated positioning and the degree to which Rewind may sometimes be stepping on Sunny's toes. And this observation is coming from someone who has complained about how some local stations are too timid about permitting some degree of musical overlap within a cluster.

Just some thoughts. And again I'm still really glad Rewind is here, although its potential is severely limited by Columbus's radio's trademark "banished to a dinky signal unless you're duplicative like 93.3" edict.

Haven't seen mention of this yet, so I'll chime in with it.

Heard the TOH legal ID overnight last night as "WNND/WNND-HD Pickerington and WNNP Richwood". FCC search confirms these new calls as of yesterday although the change is not reflected anywhere but in the "Call Sign Changes" list on each station.

Yeah, I was wondering about those calls, too. Ironically, one of the first Rewinds -- WILV Chicago -- used to be Hot AC WNND "Windy 100" awhile back. I guess in Columbus WNND is supposed to represent Re(WIND), but that's quite a stretch. Cincy's Rewind got the choice East-of-the-Mississippi calls, WREW. Oh well, calls matter less than ever in a PPM world.

I was listening to Rewind for a long stretch last night, and I am *really* impressed at how they are polishing the product.  It was good before, but it's gotten even better -- music, of course (lots of great "new" 80's/70's songs), music flow, imaging, production.  Just great most of the time!

If this had a city-grade signal, it would easily be a top-five in adults.  Of course the sad reality of the rimshot signal bursts that bubble....it will be hard to get any real traction at all.

But anyway, kudos to Rewind for really working on the product!  It shows!

(One minor thing I'm really skeptical about is wheher those on-air testimonials are actually from local listeners calling in.  They sound like pros, not real Columbusites.  And the audio on the calls is pristine.)

Well, scratch that part... Just heard some new testimonials and these were clearly the real thing. Besides, that was all just an aside. The point of the post was praise.
