The "Q" Isn't for You...Any Longer???

Jack? I'm thinking not, simply because it might cut into 107 a little too much.

Smooth Jazz? Not in a million years.

Top 40? There's really no need to launch another station that's going to be 3rd in the market. Maybe if BHT had called it quits first then they'd take a shot at it, but this is a format that requires a full time airstaff and, well, let's just say that's not something I expect to be in the cards.

I've always thought they should go to a kind of CHR-based Hot AC type format. I'm not sure what the classification would be, but I'm thinking of something along the lines of XM's "Flight 26." Lots of current hits without hip hop or especially hard tracks, mixed in with some flashbacks from the last 15-20 years. But that's something that would work with a more gradual changeover and no need for a big stunt (unless the stunt is just to get people talking and not actually signaling the start of something truly new.)

Now, that leaves us with two logical choices.

1. Hispanic
This is, IMO, the smart move. They'll instantly be the market leader, it's cheap to run off satellite, and it's perfect to launch in the summer (though shooting for Cinco de Mayo may have made slightly more sense.)

2. Oldies
This is the one I'm leaning towards. Using the Beatles as an intro makes perfect sense. There really is no competition now that NAK isn't doing strictly popular standards (and don't even say WARM) and it lends itself to the current staff. Of course, this assumes that they didn't dump everybody, which I've heard no confirmation of, aside from people on the boards saying "poor Keith." (Kerry's voice is still running on spots on Rock 107 too BTW.)

Of course, knowing this market they'll just go country.

What airstaff??
Keith & Kerry were the only two.
The production guy v/t'ed middays, the afternoon guy is at one of the other Shamrock stations....in Wisconsin??? Not sure.
And no big deal about Kerry's voice still being on commercials----SHARKEY'S voice is still on commercials.
They're gone for sure. And rumor has it Kerry already has her old job back as a producer at WBRE.

actually, believe it or not, word on the street that i'm hearing is it IS going to be smooth jazz. that new smooth jazz network is on the prowl for affiliates and it's super duper cheap to run, even if it doesn't make that much ad revenue. i think the mass die off of smooth jazz stations has stopped and we'll start seeing a minor rebound. Denver and Honolulu were two smooth jazz-less cities that just got the format back. and tiny little WSJW down in York/Harrisburg/Lancaster is holding its own too.

Randy Young, I think he's from Oklahoma, haha, but yeah I meant him and Jon as well as Special K's and the GM.

And I-78, the smooth jazz thing has been my running joke since Monday afternoon. If it actually goes smooth jazz I might laugh all the way until the next format change.

We already have a smooth jazz station. 103.1-HD2

and....laugh. ;D

A friend of a friend of a friend has some kind of connection up there at TS. Whatever it's going to be, we will likely know on Thursday.

Lots of smooth jazz talk flying around here, jokes or otherwise.

Don't know what they have planned though the words "flip the switch" were supposedly used in describing what will happen when it happens. I'd bet my little finger they're just going to simulcast ESPN, though I do believe TS has a smooth jazz station in Texas or Oklahoma. That's just a fast hard drive download away.

They flipped their Smooth Jazz station in Milwaukee to AC and it is doing quite well. The Smooth Jazz that TS had was live, local and consulted by B A.It was a good station.

My bet is a triumphant return to Classic Hits. The market will return to them. They were 7th 25-54 when they blew it up.Top 3 35-64. NEPA is a forgiving town.

Smooth Jazz is going out of business everywhere. They stayed in it a long time. There isn't enough African -American population to support the format in upstate PA.

I walked passed the Times Building and did not see the Q van in the parking lot. It must be out getting repainted.

ITS GOING TO GO ALL NEWS.
Think people. they have a News PAPER..................
They have all the news.
I heard a dude in a coffe shop talikg about it .
Its a done deal.
If Frank Andrews isn't going back to Harrisburg.
Whare do you think he is going to go ?????????
It's all news 92 and 100 all day
hockey all night....

now whats your pucker factor

As a wise man...well, come to think of it he was more about covering his derriere than he was wise, still, he used to say "If that happens I'll kiss your a _ _ in the Globe Store window." I'll do the same if they switch to all news.

You were just kidding, right? Of course you can't really rule it out. It could happen...if they can find a minimum half dozen on-air people who will work for free, then it could happen. Otherwise, I'm going to assume you were kidding.

Far as that Q van that wasn't in the parking lot, it could be out getting painted but I'd get back in that Globe Store window and start puckerin' up all over again if they've thought that far ahead.

Hahaha. Kudos.

to quote Johnny Caravella Duke Style Midnight Cool Sunshine Fever...

"I was personally hoping for all Hawaiian"

Beatles, Rolling Stones, Doors, BeeGees, Simon & Garfunkel and Aretha Franklin. It doesn't get any cooler than that! ::)

And they had to put people out on the street for this???????
You can't tell me they couldn't have found a place for them.

This format has nothing to do with programming and everything to do with stopping the bleeding. They haven't ever had numbers sufficient to make money at it, have they?

And even if they promote it versus the standard TS "two weeks of ads in the paper and a smattering of billboards then forget about it and wonder why it's not working". with everything going it's way, what's the best it can do? This format must be free or something. Next they'll try to figure out how to beat paying the electric bill.
