According to the map on radio-locator.com, 100.7 has a slightly better signal to the east, taking in Greenville and Kinston, and the north, taking in Henderson. But both stations certainly cover Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Goldsboro, Rocky Mount, Wilson and Sanford well. That's the sales area that counts. Greenville and Kinston are in the Coastal North Carolina market.

And are you saying 100.7 and 106.1 were close at one time but not now?

Yes... Clear Channel downgraded WRDU's signal and moved them to the WRAL-TV tower a few years ago. Prior to that they were 100kw @ 1500 feet or so.

The River's current 25-54 ratings are not that bad. There's a good chance if they flip to something else, they won't even hit their current numbers. Rush Radio has not been a big win, the Rooster? (stop laughing), KISS did OK but is dropping, the original (AAA) River had potential.

Ha ha, yes it was. I honestly don't think they have the skills to succeed. CCs most successful stations were successful before they purchased them.

I don't think they have people on staff who know how to program to win.

I read that CC did that so they could increase the power/footprint of one of their stations in the Va. Beach market.

It was actually a Sinclair (not the TV company) station, WUSH, which moved from Exmore on the Eastern Shore to Poquoson, Va.

^ You're right CC moved 106.1 closer to Raleigh so 106.1 in the Norfolk/Va Beach market could upgrade. I remember when 106.1 was RDU they were very strong to the east. I guess not anymore? 100.7 by the way is a monster signal I didn't lose the signal until I was on the other side of Suffolk, VA (30 minutes from VA. Beach). I hope 100.7 doesn't ditch Rock. I don't think they will but will someone else pick up the format if they do?

I think it's something along those lines. Either 100.7 is rebranding as WRDU or 100.7 is going talk and Rock is going back to 106.1. The rivers facebook page now says "4/1/13 9AM"

From outside the business all of this optimism is pretty entertaining. Does anyone here really think Clear Channel will get this right...whatever it is? WRDU died a long painful death before giving up for country. The station was poorly rated and boring its last three or four years on the air as a classic rocker. The Rooster was an embarrassment. Then Clear Channel took the syndicated programs from WPTF and promptly billed half as much in ad sales on the FM dial. Now let's talk about the River. Gave up solid ratings in oldies. Was born as AAA. Segued to classic hits. Segued further to classic hits plus some rock. Segued further to the mess you hear now. Need I go on? WRDU was one of the best stations I ever heard....in 1992. I was a sales rep at the old WZZU and know what a monster it was because I practically went broke competing with them. WRDU under its local ownership did almost everything right. Cap Star did a reasonably good job in the late 90's but the station never had the mystique with Bob & Tom in the morning and Bob Edwards' dull imaging. It is now more than 20 years later. Face it fellas...the WRDU you so long for is gone for good.

Unless you are John Hogan or Bob Pittman posting under alias names, don't expect much beyond a yawn tomorrow morning. Sorry to burst your bubbles.

Good post, although I think the nostalgia factor of the calls is making all of the radio geeks freak out.
